“The “Darfur Genocide” refers to the current mass slaughter and rape of Darfuri men, women and children in Western Sudan” (“Darfur”).These killings of Darfuri villagers began in 2003 and as of today, over 480,000 have been brutally murdered. This crisis is still ongoing, even though action is being taken by other countries and organizations to stop the violence. Suffering is still constant in Darfur as of today and will not be abolished until peace is ensured in the country (“Darfur”).

Sudanese President Omar Bashir has had two arrest warrants issued on him by the International Criminal Court (ICC). The first warrant, issued on March 4, 2009, was for crimes against humanity.The
Richoux 4 second warrant, issued in July, 2012, was for charges of genocide.Despite these arrest warrants, the Sudanese government has kept Bashir in custody and refused to turn him in.In February 2010, a ceasefire agreement was signed between the Sudanese government and JEM. This agreement has been disrupted because of the Sudanese army being accused of violence against villages in Darfur. Many attempts of bringing peace and negotiation into Sudan have been unsuccessful so far (“Darfur”).
In conclusion, “the environmental, economic, security and political factors have been the major underlying causes for the eruption of the Darfur Communal Conflict” (Salih 12). Darfur must be revived from these factors in order to make progress towards the development of peace in the country. The first step of revival would be strong leadership. Until those steps are taken, the conflict will not face resolution and the violence will not subside. (Kahn
