Back during the first thanksgiving, the day was dedicated to eating a full meal and being thankful for one’s belongings. Today, while that still stays in effect, it shows that our generation still wants more and is less grateful for what they have. This comes in example from the first bubble of the comic, where a pilgrim states “Although we do not yet have HD plasma TV”. The author proves that people now aren’t as grateful as they used to be, and is a reference to Black Friday, the national shopping spree the day after Thanksgiving. The next quote in the cartoon is from another pilgrim saying “to watch Thanksgiving football”. This is yet another tradition that has formed over the years, and while it is one of my favorite parts about Thanksgiving, it can be argued that it takes away the main point of why we celebrate the holiday. The third bubble of the cartoon explains “There is still reason to give thanks”. This is that last clue given from Granlund’s comic, showing us that there still are people out there who know the true meaning of Thanksgiving, and try to mirror the holiday just like the first
