Psychology is defined as the study of behavior and mental processes. Early philosophers included Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. These three had much to do in the teaching of many ideas such as rationalism and the Socratic Method. Psychology came about through philosophy. Philosophy at one time was considered by many to be the general school of thought. Psychology was always considered to be one with philosophy. In the year 1879 the psychology lab came about and at this time psychology was considered to be separate from philosophy. David Hume would be considered a major philosopher in the formation of what we call psychology. David Hume believed everything that took place came about due to a cause. David Hume also believed that although there was a cause for just about everything, many humans were not aware of those causes. David Hume believed that an individual should not expect for an act to take place just because it had taken place previously. Lastly David Hume thought that those who believed in science would not accept simple explanations for situations that contain an uncertain cause. Past philosopher have played such a major part in molding psychology into what it is today. Psychology is always changing and new branches are always growing. As society changes so does are thought of what we personally believe takes part in psychology. The revolution of psychology today has changed due to effective new drugs and better understanding of an individual behavior. There are always new hypothesis of ones behavior. Some may say that psychology is fragmented. Man has always been curious about how the mind works. It is in the nature of man to questions behaviors and acts of all species, this can be traced back for many centuries.
