DBQ 6: The War of 1812 After the American Revolution, the US is about to engage in another war. Britain was being more hostile to the US than ever before. Many conflicts have taken place between Britain and the US prior to the War of 1812. There were many forces that led to the Second War of Independence. British aggressions, land greed, and the War Hawks were all forces that led Americans to declare war on Britain in 1812. British aggressions were forces that led Americans to declare war on Britain in 1812. Document 1 is the first to show this. Document 1 expresses that Britain seized US ships and sailors because they didn’t acknowledged the US of having the right to use the ocean for commerce. The purpose of this document was to express unhappiness against British aggressions on the US. This document shows that British aggressions on the Americans merchants was a factor because it foreshadows the war due to the fact that British aggressions/impressments were getting worst despite the US “complaints and protests” against Britain. The US tried peacefully to avoid war and to get their grievances addressed by making Jay’s Treaty with Britain. Jay’s Treaty was made to convince Britain to pay damages for seizures of American ships and to return US sailors, but Britain refused to do so. Britain continued to seize US ships and sailors and became more hostile to the US. This shows that British aggressions was a force that led to the declaration of war because the US wanted to prevent war but Britain seemed to want war with the US with their aggressions in the sea.
The second document to show that British aggression was a force that led to the war is document 2. It illustrates that Britain violated the US trading rights by seizing ships and impressing sailors. The purpose of this document was to persuade the US to declare war on Britain as a way to redress their grievances. The document also states that the only way to redress their grievances
