As an artists of spoken word I would love to work and be part of the organizations poetry evenings
in addition to their weekly meetings on Wednesday evenings. Contributing to a community often targeted by policies based on discrimination and a violation of civil liberties interning with Out Now will place back in the heart of the city and the population of youth often targeted for bullying and rejection by family members. As survivor of coming out to my family I know what it’s like to struggle just to be acknowledged and seen as a productive member in my community. My personal struggle to make peace with who I am and what I want to do in life is an asset I can contribute to this organization as my approach and information is personal and a commitment to standing up and defending my community at all costs. In fact what Out Now has provided to the city of Springfield makes me reminisce to the group I found in Lawrence trying to figure out who I was and lost.
