In document E it states that the “Doctrine of Lapse, a policy which allowed the East India Company to extend its control into indian territory when a native ruler died. The company applied the Doctrine to take over the town of oudh. Indians considered this to be a final outrage of British conquest”. The Sepoys were frustrated because they were being treated badly in recent years. There pay had declined, and the soldiers weren’t being respected by the officers. By taking over the town of Oudh it was a huge deal and insult to their culture. All of things contributed to their revolt.
In Conclusion the reason why this rebellion started was because by the year 1857 the British established complete political control of India. The mutiny of the Sepoy began on May 10, 1857, when Indian soldiers revolted against the British. The British interfered with their religion, had seized direct control of Oudh and gave them no respect or say in their government. The Sepoys couldn’t take it anymore and they fought back against
