De Chirico's Conquest
The warmth and bustle of human activity seem to have receded from this place. The formal features of de Chirico's paintings, although generally overlooked in favor of the subject, are also significant. While the individual objects are rendered realistically, there is no” bravura” in de Chirico's approach. This is the stillness and silence of a
Mediterranean city under the midday sun, but heightened and transformed. The Philosopher's
Conquest, suggests that the picture represents a triumph of the inner world, the painter's conquest of the human psyche. A related drawing, dated no earlier than fall 1913, shows many of the principal features of this painting. The main differences in the drawing are a palm tree in the background, which has been

Conquest of New Spain When trying to recall a historical event, we try to find the most accurate and most reliable source that is available. It is important to make sure that the source is accurate because if it is not, the information that we share could be false. When recalling the events that happened when the Spanish and the Aztecs had an encounter, we look at many different sources such as excerpts, background information, and even the actual translated version of the book that Bernal Díaz del Castillo wrote himself. After reading all of these sources, I found that the book written by Bernal Díaz del Castillo titled “The True History of the Conquest of New Spain” is more reliable because it provides a good amount of information that comes…

The prime focus of this piece is Mt.Hood, which is centered in the middle of the picture plane halfway up the canvas. The mountain in the piece is opaque as there are no t-intersections within it. Behind the mountain various tones of orange, red, purple, and yellow are used to create a stunning sunset. Underneath the mountain, short straight strokes of numerous shades of green, blue, orange, and purple were used to create an image of thousands and thousands of trees. Close to halfway on the canvas, the image of Mt.Hood, the sunset, and the rows of trees is reflected on the water of Trillium Lake. Tehan utilizes the same colors she used in the top half of the canvas to create the reflection on the water. Centered on the bottom of the canvas towards the left side of the piece is a railing painted using various tones of brown, black, purple, yellow, pink, and orange. Tehan's delicate use of her pallet knife allowed her to create straight geometric lines for the railing. It also allowed her to give the railing an illusory texture.…

Just a little bit off from the middle of the painting there is a structure not unlike Stone Hedge in England on top of a hill. Below it there is a river with small sailing ships going around, and on the bank there is a village filled with lots of wooden structures and even further left you can see a man using oxen to plow a field. On the other side of the painting you can see another section of the river where a larger sailing ship is being constructed on its…

When discussing the importance of Spanish alliances, it is important to discuss Matthew Restall’s interpretation of “the myth of the white conquistador”. A common myth in regards to the Spanish Conquest is that the Aztecs were conquered by a small group of white Spanish men. Within Restall’s book titled “Seven Myths of the Spanish Conquest”, he debunks the myth of the white conquistadors. Restall’s argues that “there is no doubt that the Spanish were consistently outnumbered by native enemies on the battlefield. But what has so often been ignored or forgotten is the fact that Spaniards tended also to be outnumbered by their own native allies. Furthermore, the invisible warriors of this myth took an additional form, that of the Africans, free and enslave, who accompanied Spanish…

Mathew Restall’s Seven Myths of the Spanish Conquest is a well-written book that serves an important purpose. That purpose being: the debunking of generally accepted falsehoods about the Spanish Conquest beginning in the 15th century. Restall’s book is separated into seven chapters that specifically address general myths most historians and students perceive as basic --- universal truths. Restall uses the term “myth” to describe the inaccurate/fictitious depiction of history “commonly taken to be true, partially or absolutely.” These “myths” are the progenitors of unintentionally self-centered perceptions of events historically recorded in subjectivity. The Self-absorption, relating to the…

This piece of art was created by Claude Monet. He is known as the classic impressionist. In this painting, he captures the ever-changing nature of light and color. Unlike a lot of paintings, you can see the brush strokes in this painting. But I believe that the brush strokes used help create the piece of art and they help show the leaves and flowers on the trees. Also, it helps make the clouds in the sky look more hazy and beautiful.…

The art piece is representational, the lines are sharp and there are various and different shapes. The texture is smooth and there has been more than one colour that has been used in the painting. The tone shows that the sun is on him even though there is no sun shown in the portrait. Space and depth has been used as you can tell the objects are further away and the ones that are closer up and in detail.…

_Myths of the Spanish Conquest_ is broken into seven chapters, each dedicated to a different myth or mis-conception regarding the Spanish conquest. In debunking these myths, Matthew Restall works with three themes regarding the conquest. First, that the European discovery of the Americas was one of the greatest events in human history. Second, that the conquest was the achievement of "a few great men," which he subsequently describes as "a handful of adventurers." These two themes lead to a third theme, or question. "If history's greatest event - the European discovery and conquest of the Americas - was achieved by a mere "handful of adventurers," how did they do it?"…

1066: The Year of the Conquest is not a bad book, but it is not a very good book either. When I first opened the book I was expecting to have nothing cold hard facts thrown into my face, but instead I got an informational story that was told with emotion. There were times in the book where my gears actually started to turn and then there were times when I struggled to make it through the chapter because I lost interest in that piece of the text. The information in the book is boring but the way that Howarth told the structure of events is what actually kept me interested in the story.…

There are different kinds of lines used in this painting. The artist has used some curvy lines near the edge and the center of the fruit. Straight lines are also used in this painting. Some lines are thick and some are thin, separating the seeds and the showing the opaqueness of some parts. The painting itself is a rectangle shape. The shape of the fruit is objective. There are many other smaller shapes in the painting. The shape of the seeds is oval. The center of the fruit gives kind of semi-circle look. The row of the seeds looks like a thin petal of a flower. The fruit itself is looking like a semi-circle.…
