1. A virus is an infective agent that has a nucleic acid molecule in a protective coat. They generally range in 20 to 300 nm, has RNA or DNA that multiplies in a cell. A lytic phase in a virus is when the conditions for infecting are favorable, when there are many “victim cells” and good conditions outside the cell.
2. Viruses are not alive, as they only have DNA/RNA and few other necessary ingredients of a cell. They lack too many things to be called living. Viruses reproduce by inserting their genetic encoding into a “host cell” and the DNA or RNA has all the necessities to reproduce.
3. Antibiotics kill certain bacteria and not all bacteria. They are made to cure certain illnesses and kill living things. Viruses are not living, so there is nothing to kill.
4. The West Nile Virus, or flavivirus, is a disease spread by mosquitoes. It is thought to have been spread from mosquitoes eating dead bird blood and getting infected. Many people don’t even realize that they have it; as if you’re healthy you won’t get any symptoms. It affects young children, older people, pregnant people and people with health problems, such as HIV or AIDS.
5. Filoviruses belong to a virus family called Filoviridae and there are two known types of viruses in this family: The Marburg and the Ebola.
6. Angola is in Africa, located just below the Democratic Republic of Congo.
