In Angela's society, women do not get that choice. Her entire future is going to be altered, and she has no say in it. Bayardo, a young man coming to town to look for a bride, expects Angela to say yes to his marriage proposal. He states, " 'When I wake up,' he said, 'remind me that I'm going to marry her' " (Márquez 29). Angela is going to be forced into a marriage she wants nothing to do with. Her family does not respect her future, and supports creating a life for her which she does not want. Bayardo also did not respect Angela's feelings towards him, or even acknowledge if she wants to marry him. NO SENTENCE?? "Bayardo San Román hadn't even tried to court her" (Márquez 34). Bayardo's need to show machismo and be masculine destroys Angela and her future by limiting her to himself. He did what he wanted, and Angela is not able to have it any other way. Bayardo needs to show his strength and take advantage of how he was able to do and get whatever he wanted, which in this case is Angela. Her life is not only going to be changed because of the forced marriage, but she has to give up parts of herself by taking care of a family.
