Narrative Voice In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
This essay will explain about the narrative voice that is used in novels and how it misleads or mystifies the reader. Narrative voice defines the tone of the narrator stating their point of view. It presents the reader the situation which causes the narrator to have control over the reader’s mood. For example in the novel Perfume: the story of a murder by Patrick Suskind the author created a third person omniscient point of view. Therefore it allows the reader to know multiple characters feelings and thoughts. So that being the protagonist from the novel Perfume: the story of a murder Jean Baptiste was an unwanted male since the day of his birth which already causes the reader to have sympathy for Jean Baptiste. But once the narrator states the tragic homicide Jean Baptiste committed it misleads the reader from feeling sympathy for Baptiste to having thoughts about him being the antagonist of the story. …show more content…
Which mystifies the reader and creates different moods for the reader because of the confusion of knowing who the actual protagonist of the novel is. Moreover Santiago Nasar is the protagonist of the novel Chronicle of a Death Foretold but Nasar was killed for deflowering the antagonist Angela Vicario. Santiago Nasar causes the reader to feel pity for his death due to him being innocent of the crime he was accused of. While Angela Vicario misleads the reader and causes mixed emotions for the reader because of the lies that are being told. So that being said in both novels Perfume: the story of a murder by Patrick Suskind and Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez have a similarity when it comes to the narrative
