Central Idea: I will discuss history of the death penalty in all states, the advantages and disadvantages of death penalty.
Introduction
I. Attention: Robert M. Bohm, the author of DeathQuest published in 2011 stated in his book that: “approximately 3,300 inmates currently on death rows throughout the United States represent less than two-tenths of 1 percent of the approximately 2.4 million inmates in all prison and jails.”
II. Topic: My topic today is the death penalty in the United States.
III. Credibility: I am qualified to discuss this case because I have spent several hours researching this topic for this speech.

My first main point is the background information on the death penalty in the United States. According, to the Contemporary Justice Review by James Acker in this article he specifies that penitentiaries did not exist in old America and did not appear in the United States until the late 1700s and early 1800s.
A. During the times of colonial America all the people just basically did hanging to people who committed crimes.
B. There was no option for sentencing even for the smallest crimes such as robbery and adultery.
II. In a May 2006 book From Lynch Mobs to Killing State by Charles J. Ogletree Jr. and Austin Sarat stated in the late 1900s many cases for example Maxwell v. Bishop, Coker v. Georgia, and Furman v. Georgia had many claims against African Americans being sentenced to the death penalty.
A. It’s not only African Americans being racial discriminate against in judicial system also Hispanic.
B. The history of lynching has always been apart of the United States history back to slavery. 1. Charles J. Ogletree Jr. and Austin Sarat in the book From Lynch Mobs to Killing in May 2006 stated “the government passed an anti-lynching after nearly five thousand reported lynching many who were
