Music Essay In this essay I think Aaron Copland’s essay how we listen to music is better because it gives examples and feelings of why and reasons that people listen to music. In Copland’s essay he says there are different planes of music the first one is the sensuous plane, the second is the expressive plane, and the third is the sheerly musical plane and in Reagon says there are also different types of music but he describes it as one the spirituals sung by the college choir, two rhythm ‘n’ blues, and third church music and as they describe the different types of music but as they said the different types of music but Copland says the different types of emotions and Reagon’s essays says the different types of music that black people sing. Also in Copland’s essay he describes how different types of emotion make people listen to different types of music (The more music reminds them of a train, a storm, a funeral, or any other familiar conception of the more expressive it appears to be to them.) Also it states that people listen to music for some kind of comfort. In Reagon’s essay it says music should be in church. I think both writers have the same reason about the reason we understanding of music. But with their different types of explaining of their own types of music. They have made their different types of music comparing. Copland’s essay says that different types of music help people with the different types of music, While Reagon’s states that only church and gospel music and does not say anything other than different types of music.
Also why I think Copland’s essay is better is because it talks about all the different types of music once again but he says about the different people who like music and how everyone listens to different types of music while Reagon’s is talking about himself and how music has effected is life and how the different experiences in his life. Another reason I
