Luc De Clapiers once said, “The art of pleasing is the art of deceiving.” In other words, you must lie to please yourself or others. At least, that is what Macbeth believed. Deception is a theme portrayed heavily in the story of ,”Macbeth.” Considering, Macbeth craved power, he would attempt anything to receive it. Lying to his acquaintances, killing the king who highly trusted him, and even betraying his best friend are just some of the several ways Macbeth gave the story the theme of deception.
After the horror, Macbeth quickly turns to deception when he lies to the people around him about the murder. Waking up in a state of shock, the individuals in the castle hustled around to advise others of the event. The feeling was surreal to them, they couldn't believe their eyes. King Duncan was so convinced that Macbeth was trustworthy, that he accepted his offer to stay a night at Macbeth’s castle. Unknowingly, that Macbeth had a dominant plan to kill the king and take over his position. With a high stress level, Macbeth committed the murder. Unlike his wife, Macbeth had an excessive amount of panic after the deed was done. Clearly, Macbeth made the theme of deception as large as the solar system in this story.
Banquo, who was Macbeth’s best friend, was surprisingly deceived by Macbeth. Everyone has heard the saying ,”No one needs a friend who will just be a back stabber in the end.” In other words, this quote is about a friend who goes behind your back figuratively attacks you. However, Macbeth literally backstabs his best friend. Macbeth ends up killing Banquo just to protect the crown. He wanted to ensure that he would be the one who received it and became the king. As a result, Macbeth selfishly ended the life of his best
