Deciduous forest biome

UNKNOWN AUTHOR March 5,

A deciduous forest biome is a type of forest characterized by trees that seasonally shed their leaves. In the deciduous forest biome has a variety of different foods. Some foods are: berries, nuts, lettuce, meats, and fruits and vegetables. They have lots of different types of animals. They are bears, birds, squirrels, rabbits, deer, foxes, mountain lions, frogs, snakes, and an opossum. Lots of animals depend on each other to survive. Like the squirrels depend on the nuts for food and the foxes depend on the squirrels for food. In the deciduous forest it is every man or animal for its self. You have to fight for your life. The deciduous forest biome has four distinct seasons; spring, winter, autumn or fall, and summer. Winters are mildly cold with frequent snow and rain. The summers are hot and occasionally has a slight rainfall. In the fall or autumn time the leaves of trees fall off. Some people rake their leaves up then their kids or family jumps in the pile of leaves just for fun. During spring time the plants start to grow again and it rains for about three fourths of the whole season. We have very rich soil or land that grows are crops right here where we live.

Animals in the Temperate Deciduous Forest must be able to withstand cold winters and hot summers. Animals in the Temperate Deciduous Forest either migrate or hibernate in the winter and return in the summer. The American Black Bear has a thick coat with many layers that help keep it warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It’s also an omnivore meaning it eats plants and meat.…

Being a coniferous area of woodland the main tree species are: pine, larch, birch and spruce. Some of these trees (spruce and pine) are adapted to the climate by having smaller, prickly leaves with waxy cuticles to reduce water loss and do not defoliate in winter. The advantage of this being that the trees may take in all the available sunlight for photosynthesis. The branches on such trees tend to be slightly elastic and bend under the eight of snow causing it to fall off and expose the leaves to the sun. The trees also have very shallow roots due to the continuous permafrost that restricts growth and also slows down the nutritional development of the soil.…

On 4th October 2001, I went on geography field trip to Ashdown Forest. We got out of the coach and started to walk towards the river source. Unfortunately due to the lack of weather there wasn’t any water. It was dry rather than muddy. We took some notes of landscape then we started walk towards the waterfall which was also dry. We could see where the drop was and where the hard rock eroded away soft rock. We took some measurement of the fall (width and depth). Secondly we walked toward the V-shaped valley and river. We drew the landscape of v-shaped valley and jot some notes down as well. But the river wasn’t fill up with water so there wasn’t any flow. So we took some measurements in our mini group. We measured river course section, speed and depth of water. Lastly we started to walk our way back to coach. On the way back we stopped at Arman’s Grave where 6 people died in plane crash in World War 2. We took some note on that and came back to coach. After that we had lunch and come back to school. In this project I am to explain some features of Ashdown Forest that I found out when I was on the trip.…

For this Field report, I visited a wooded area that is near the beach in Chesapeake Beach. From a quick glance, I saw a combination of mature trees and young trees. Since I can see that the trees lost their leaves during the Fall, I will state that they are deciduous trees. They shed their leaves through the process of abscission. For the mature tree in this picture I observed that the trunk is darker than the younger trees in the background and about 15 to 20 feet tall if not higher. Walking through the fallen leaves you can hear branches and twigs break and when I touched the soil it did not feel totally dry since it rained the day before.…

The natural vegetation regions and soil regions are interconnected in numerous ways. Soil regions as the Tundra soils, or dry climate soils have the potential to affect the type of vegetation that can be grown. Where you would find cold temperatures as the Tundra, you can expect limited vegetation to grasses, mosses, and shrubs. Because the ground has an active layer of permafrost, growing conditions are not suitable for plants and trees. Areas with moist soil as the wet-climate regions, you are expected to find trees and plants resembling the mixed forests, boreal and taiga forest, as well the deciduous forests. The Grasslands are located in the dry climate soils situated in the Prairie Provinces. Due to the dry temperatures there are very insufficient amount of trees, and consisting of large rolling terrains of grasses. To conclude location is a dependent factor on the type of vegetation a region will come to…

These four season are what their lives revolved around. In spring, the earth softened, warmed, and fertile dirt was ready to receive seeds. In the summer, berries became available during the extremely long stretches of dry and hot weather. In autumn, trees foliage changed to beautiful colors including red, yellow, and orange. Air was a bit more chilled and windy during this season. In the winter, snow fell over the land, freezing the lakes. The cycle of the seasons was clearly defined (Bial, 1999).…

In the autumn, some call it fall, it begins to cool off. The leaves on the trees begin to change color from green to the colors of fall (red, orange, yellow, and brown). Other plants may become inactive and “go to sleep”. Some animals prepare themselves for the colder weather by gathering food and traveling to warmer climates. This is a time of harvest and many cultures celebrate with feasts and celebration.…
