Separating From The Military Separating
from the military is a decision that can have a positive or negative effect on an individual 's life. When making a plan to separate, the planning process started six months out from the end of the obligated military contract. Issues were identified, alternative solutions were taken into consideration, alternatives were evaluated, a choice was made, the decision was implemented, and the evaluation of the decision made has so far been a logical decision based on long term goals. The constant deployments made it hard to be the type of father one 's morals deemed good. Providing for a family is only part of a bigger picture. Combat tour after combat tour began to change the structure of family life as it was once known. A plan was put into action to separate, buy a house, and enroll in college. The process was long and at times a successful completion of short term goals seemed out of reach. Organization played an important part in the successful separation, purchase of a home, and the enrollment in the college that would work best for a father of four children.
Personal Steps Taken In Comparison To Text The steps in the text are very similar if not a shadow of the steps that were taken during separation and the transition into what military personal know it as the "civilian world." Several times it was heard that it was not a smart decision to separate after eleven years of honorable service. The decision to separate had already been diagnosed, fine combed for other possible solutions, and evaluated for alternatives. It was interesting the learn how the thinking process of a leader of Marines can go hand in hand with the scholar of a management text book. Separation of tasks by prioritizing helped in the transition process from Marine to civilian. Appointments were scheduled, kept, and recorded. The search for housing was also a battle in today 's market. Plenty night of research occurred and eventually an inside deal was worked to lock in a accepted offer on a home in the location that was desired. The search for a school was one of the easier tasks thanks to networking and the information received from fellow colleagues that separated to attend college. Having steps, not becoming overwhelmed, setting goals, and taking things one day at a time helped in the successful life changing decision.
Conclusion
It was identified that the steps explained in the text came close to going hand in hand with the process implemented in making three life changing decisions. Without organization and critical thinking one could have had severe consequences to decisions that are not thought out. Important decisions need to be executed in a thought out process, organized in steps, and have clear mile stones that must be accomplished. If a decision is not organized in this manner loss of the overall mission can occur making it possible to miss your mark of intention.
