11 November 2014 The comparison of two epic lifestyles
The human race tend to take things in life for granted. Someone once quoted the people who make our clothes are poor we are rich. Is this a true statement about America? Instead of appreciating the finer things in life. However some people in today’s society are grateful at the same time. Sometimes we have to sit back and consider others who don’t have the luxuries we have. Although Cambodians and Americans are both human beings there lifestyles are very different in a way. The Americans live the luxurious lifestyle compared to the Cambodians. We call it the American way also known as the American dream. But we still at the same time tend to take it for granted. Shockingly the Cambodia’s on the other hand tend to look at things on bright side of things and be grateful for what they have. For example the lifestyle of the Americans is very luxurious they go to school or either work go home enjoy their family and go to sleep. When they want and how they want. On the other hand the Cambodians barley get a good decent meal they have to go to work to support their family. That they only get to see once or twice a year. The Americans can do what they love to do for a living its many careers the Americans can choose to do. From playing sports to staring in movies the Americans have it made some of them tend to look over the opportunities they have in life. It states in the book that cambodnies have to pay for a job in the USA its free pg.128. The cambodinies are forced to mature faster and take on duties than the average American child.
Everybody in today’s society needs an education in order to succeed in the world. In America education is the key to success but in Cambodia it’s a little different. Americans are granted an education up till college. On the other hand Cambodia’s are not promised the same opportunities some are forced to quit school and

The story “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” by Le Guin definitely showcases how Omelas is very similar to the American society. The most significant part of the passage is when they bring up the young boy who is in the cellar. The idea behind this is that in order to make everyone happy, there has to be those few people to take the downfall, and this situation happens often in America. Particularly in America we tend to be very materialistic; people often depend on the products made and brought over to our country in poorer nations around the world because it is cheaper and makes life easier for us. The things that we pay for on the day to day bases, such as, clothes, food, etc., are most likely made by a laborer who barely gets paid or even children from third world countries. Also in…

The Vietnam War ended in 1975, which caused many Vietnamese people to be driven out of their homes and immigrate to America, seeking a safe life away from the affects of war and political turmoil (Ojeda-Kimbrough Lecture June 7, 2012). My family was a part of these refugees searching for a way out. I interviewed my mother, Huong Carter who was born and raised in Vietnam and came to the U.S. with the second wave of immigrants after the war had ended. The second wave of immigrants, including my family, could not speak English very well and traveled by boat, which was one of the most dangerous ways of travel during this time (Ojeda-Kimbrough Lecture June 7, 2012). With the threat of pirates, theft, illness, and drowning, my family faced these dangers in order to gain their freedom.…

First, as a human, we should not easily give up on tasks about that we passion. In the movie, Bartle B did not give up on his idea of running the college even though he was lack of supporters, thus he want to have a college for students to be who they are. Therefore, he obtained a fruitful result. Last but not lease, I have learnt that the system of entering to all universities at America is very selective, which means only students with good performances can enter universities. On the other hand, that system in Cambodia is far easier which students just solely pay fees and can start their universities.…

    Spoiled America

Some years ago a very close friend who was from Jamaica declared to my mother that “Americans are spoiled.” My mother was indignant. She stated to him “What do you mean, you're no different then we are.” She did not understand why he was comparing the two countries. Neither of us understood the seriousness of his statement. He explained that Americans complained too much. He went on to explain that compared to many of the poor areas of Jamaica the government subsidized apartments that he had seen here in the U.S. looked like mansions. He also made further statements that made me wonder was he in fact correct in his observations. Since that time I have had the opportunity to travel to several different countries throughout the world. I actually got to see and experience some the differences in other countries compared to the U.S. After pondering this introduction over the last couple of days would you be surprised if I said that I believe that Americans are not necessarily spoiled? I had to ask myself “ What defines being a spoiled American? Is it overindulgence, greed, too many choices? There are a plethora of reasons Americans are considered to be spoiled. For some the answer would be yes. On…

In my country education is nothing like the education in The United States, El Salvador, my home country, is one of the poorest countries in Central America, people come to the U.S to get a better education to help their people back home, and is not only El Salvador, so many other countries like Guatemala, Venezuela, Mexico and many other countries from Latin America come to the US to study and be a better person and get a decent education. What motivates me to study and to continue with my career is my family, because they didn’t go to school and I don’t want to get old and work in the same job for decades and do the same for the rest of my life. Another this that makes me disappointed and sad is when I see people that doesn’t know how to communicate in English, but at the same time it makes me mad because people needs to educate themselves, no one is going to tell you “Don’t go to school you don’t need that”, yes there is so many negative people outside in the world but education is an option, a personal…

Getting an education is considered a blessing too many, in America many of us believe that everybody should get equality when it comes down to education, but is that really the case? I believe that education is something that many of us take advantage of, especially when you are a kid and you think your education is free and you dread waking up early in the morning for school. Though, when you grow older we are glad that we have received an education and we can contribute to new technology, or we have the opportunity to create a top selling novel, learn about the history of the world, or just knowing why the sky is blue. We all know, and if you don’t you should, that many of the poorer regions in the world don’t receive a proper education, but could living in a poorer region of the United States of America affect your opportunity for education? I hold this to be true.…
