Deep Pool Monologue
Looking back at the situation I say to myself that I was an idiot to even go on that slide. I knew I couldn't swim and I didn't check how the deep the pool was. I used to have nightmares about me walking around blue mist struggling for air and every time I died I would wake up. I barely told people about the whole almost drowning thing, but at the moment it’s all thrown out the window. Getting out of that pool breathing and still fully functional is probably the luckiest thing to ever happen to me. The only thing I learned from the whole experience was even the simplest things like water can take your life. I mean even falling off your bed could kill you. Not a whole of people go through a life and death moment, but it happens all the time

Hello! My name's River. River Brave. Sounds pretty sassy, right? Just as much as my personality. But it's just because i live alone, like, for 8 years? And now my 19th birthday is coming up in July. I don't know who my parents are or were, because i was found wandering in the streets alone by elder couple. They were pretty nice but died when i was 11. I was able to take care of myself because i continued living in their house for 3 years, but i left because there was no shops, malls or stores, if there were, then they are abandoned by now. So i took some money with me and headed to the city, but it's dangerous here and i need to hide from other people. Why? Because I'm not normal. "I'm unique!" I keep telling myself, since i burned a man alive.…

Step by wicked step, my boots sank further and further into the thick, red-tinged land as if the devil himself were dragging my body straight into the depths of hell. The rhythmic squelching stabbed through my rubber soles, radiating pain throughout my soul as it seared everything in its path. Squelch, squelch, squish. My tempo was interrupted by those cursed boots refusing to budge from the stubborn terrain. As if taunting me, the earth unhooked my feet from the damned soil…

Sadly, I can connect to the narrator’s creepy crush. When I was in middle school, I had the biggest crush on a neighborhood boy. I guess you could have called me a low-key stalker similar to the main character in “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mante”. The narrator had a very creepy and awkward crush on his attractive neighbor. He hid in the bushes during a party her family was having to watch her. He did everything in his power to get the girl to notice him by showing off his swimming and diving skills even if there was the just slightest chance she was paying attention. The boy would also watch Sheila in her bathing suit at the pool, admiring her figure. We can tell that his crush was both creepy and awkward because of the fact that he barely…

Although I nearly died, I carry an enduring memory from the trip: the Leap of Faith water slide. At the time, silky-white slides that towered at such angles appalled me. When my turn to ride the harrowing slide arrived, I completely ignored the frivolous rules by sitting straight up on the way down. As I exited the bottom of the slide, my mother and sister sprinted towards me, expressions of fear across their bleached faces. Never did it cross my mind that I put my life in jeopardy, until they reprimanded me for not reading the safety guidelines. “I could have lost you,” my mother exclaimed despite the tears welling up in her…

My legs were shook like they never had before and in any normal situation I would be sweating but it was too cold for that. I saw the end of the diving board, I heard the sound of the board hitting the fulcrum as I jumped off the board to complete my dive. The dive I was about to meet with disaster was a Back 1 ½ Somersault in the Pike Position. This is when you do one and a half back flips and you land on your try head. Try was the key word in that previous statement. I felt my legs come up far too slowly and I felt myself jump to…

Now, the pool cleaner was by no means a 20-ft man-eating fish with teeth, but the idea of something else being in the water with me, that something being able to maneuver independently with grace, all the while remaining mysterious, waiting to strike at its powerless victims at the right moments. Another thing that was presumably a factor was my chronic fear of the unknown that still persists with me to this day. At the time, as a child, not knowing what this thing in the water, was absolutely frightening to my guileless…
