Near the holiday, we set up a Halloween party for the homeless at Morning Star and the neighborhood children. In this event, food was passed out to those people sitting there cold and alone. Some people even donated clothing to them, so by the end of the night, they were filled with warmth which came apparent from the smiles they flashed. I have learned to uphold a greater respect for others than I did four years ago. Some people may hold less respect for these people by the little that they are able to offer, but I gained even more because they’re there accepting help when in their position and some wouldn’t even show their faces. It wasn’t much that we were able to change, but our small deed made them happy even if it was just for a night which they expressed their bountiful…

Performing the act of kindness of providing money for food to someone in need helped to build moral character for both parties involved. The person in need, perhaps has gained knowledge he or she is not alone and others do care about what happens to him or her. The person receiving the gift may reciprocate the act by searching for jobs or applying for social support. The person giving the gift has become responsible to help others; this act can lead to bigger acts in the community of aid to others. Many people in the community practicing altruism can be beneficial in teaching social responsibility to others. In such efforts to promote altruism limits exist in persuading others to become responsible in the plight.…

As people mention the virtue, generosity, they always conceive of an image of a wealthy philanthropist who donates his money to people in need. However, in my opinion, the concept of generosity exceeds the narrow connotation of giving to others, and not only can rich people become generous; rather, generosity comprises of empathy to share others’ feelings, magnanimous tolerance towards other people, and returning to them with kindness.…

1. There are many virtues in life that one may have. Virtues are characteristics we have that according to Aristotle help us lead the good life. Among these many virtues is generosity. Being generous can help us lead a virtuous life, thus a good one. However what is generosity? Generosity is a virtue but what makes somebody generous? First, we need to understand the most basic part of being generous, and that is the act of giving. In order to be virtuous, one must act, and in this case by giving. Giving to those in need may be seen as virtuous. By helping those in need and giving to them we may accomplish a better life. However, further thinking leads us to understand that giving in itself is not enough. We need to be able to know how to give just the right amount. By giving either too much or not enough we cannot be virtuous. When a person gives too much, one cannot help the other person. The person in need may become dependent on the person who is giving and receiver will not learn to benefit from the generosity. On the other hand, not giving enough is stinginess. It shows the lack of character and can be seen as selfish. Obviously by not giving enough or giving too much, one cannot accomplish the true goal of giving, which is to help others. In conclusion, generosity is one of life’s many virtues and it is seen as the act of giving. We know that the act of giving has to be done in just the right amount in order to be virtuous and have a fulfilling life.…

In the world today, the word “argument” is used on a daily basis and usually carries a bad meaning. In fact, the word is used so much that people often mistaken it’s true meaning. According to the book Writing Arguments by John Ramage, John Bean and June Johnson, there is no universally accepted definition of “argument.” The meaning of the term is rather complex, and it has been remained a controversial issue of philosophers and rhetoricians over the centuries (2). Because of the complexity of the word, we need to examine three important points in order to understand what “argument” truly meant: the misconceptions about the meaning of argument, the features of argument, and the relationship of argument to the problem of truth.…

“We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give.” While brainstorming ideas for this essay I came across this quote by Winston Churchill. Even if you are making a good living for yourself, you should always take time out of your day to give back; you never know when you might need someone to help you out. Volunteering my time to my community has always been something I’ve made time for. Not only does volunteering help others, but it can affect your own character. By volunteering you learn social skills, gain work experience, and if you are lucky enough, it will change your life.…

Before, I was all about myself, I knew what I needed and knew what to do to get what I needed. But since I have had this experience I have decided that giving is the life for me. I now see that I am not the only person in the world that has needs, and I am also not the only person in the world who struggles to meet said needs. And I believe that if I lead the rest of my life giving, I could inspire someone else to give, too. Luther was all it took to start the peasant revolt. That alone is enough proof that if one mind changes, several will follow after it. If we all become giving citizens maybe we can all find our inner…

Through my experiences in DECA, I have developed many short term and long term goals that I'm determined to reach. These goals of mine are seemingly straight forward, such as graduating college with a 4.0 GPA and applying my knowledge of business to a profession that I have great passion for. Once I have reached these goals, in order for me to continue my road to success, I must give. When people hear the word "give", they tend to think of physical things such as money. My plan is to give much more than material objects to those in need, but rather build emotional relationships along the way. I have a great passion for making a difference in others lives and I've put much effort into doing so emotionally, but if I can build my wealth to a point…

What is generosity? To some, it's giving more than you have to individuals that might need it more than you do. To others, it's trying to make people smile, or make someone's day a little bit brighter. Being generous does not mean that you have to give money, sometimes you just have to give time. Every person has a different definition of what it means. Anne Frank states that "No one has ever become poor by giving." Is that because being generous makes your heart feel rich? Frank A. Clark says "Real generosity is doing something nice for someone who will never notice." If no one ever acknowledges when someone does a considerate deed for them, why does generosity spread? In this day and age, people broadcast their generous deed on social media.…
