Definition Essay About Laughter
Laughter is an abstract idea that brings happiness to everyone. When you are having a bad day, a simple joke can brighten it a little. It is crucial to laugh every day because it makes you smile and turn your whole day into a great one.
Humor is not just something kids do to pass time in class instead of doing their work. Humor makes a serious person crack smile and let everyone else enjoy their day as well. When I was no older than one year old, I would never vocalize or smile. I was just a statue sitting there looking at my surroundings. My grandma would always tell my dad, “Get Lauren checked out by the doctor. I think she is deaf.” My mom and dad never thought it was true so they would just go to the second best option, making me laugh.

Laughter is something that pleases the mind. Throughout our entire lives, we search for things that make us feel, even for the slightest amount of time, happy. Billy Collins writes, “Chalk dust flurrying down in winter, / nights dark as a blackboard” (Page 535). He is referring to happy times as a teenager. Being more than happy when the snow comes and school is out. Having nothing but time to be out of the house at all times of the night. Through conscious decisions, we forget about life. Sometimes even forgetting about the future.…

Why do people laugh? Someone makes a strange sound or behaves in a peculiar manner so everyone around expels air out of their lungs at a rapid rate. Why? In an article for NBC News, Robert Provine, professor of neurobiology & psychology at the University of Maryland, states from an evolutionary perspective, “We believe laughter evolved from the panting behavior of our ancient primate ancestors (1999).” He further explains that people and apes laugh under the same circumstances, such as while playing games or being tickled (Provine, 1999). This “accelerated expulsion of air” is an innate reaction to an individual’s surroundings.…

Humor is an important part of human psychology because it presents information with a light atmosphere and an easy to understand way. Humor also conveys information that is inappropriate to state directly. Because humor has the quality to convey information to a broad audience, the makers of humor, or humorists, are therefore a vital part of society and the key to social progress. Humorists make social progress by conveying criticism through humorous works, by making specialized information easier accessible to the public, and by causing viewers of the works to reflect on their own weaknesses.…
