define success in time of accomplishments and awards, material possessions and profit margins"(182). Secondly, success is setting realistic goals that you want to reach. Whether it be going back to school, finding a job, or simply being happy. The process of setting goals helps you choose where you want to go in life. By knowing specifically what you want to achieve, you know where you have to concentrate your efforts. Without goals you lack focus and direction. Goals motivate you, drive your efforts, and show your progress. As Dungy stated "Set goals to achieve and achieve what you are able to achieve" (Dungy, 2008) Thirdly accepting failure: accepting failure happens when you understand success. We must realize that failure is not the end of anything but only the beginning. Before one can achieve success they must overcome failure. We may have a setback if we make a wrong decision, but our mistakes will teach us. Don't worry about the negatives keep in mind to make yourself as good as you can be (Dungy,180). Dungy stated "He doesn't always give us smooth selling he doesn't always us down hill rides on our bicycles sometimes we have to pedal uphill" (Dungy, 2008). Success is all about learning how to recognize why you failed, and how you're going to compensate for it. Like Dungy said" Do whatever it takes to get the job done" (Dungy, 2008). Success takes willpower, determination, and intelligence. But more than anything else it requires failure. Next setting a timeline to achieve your goals.
Giving your goals deadlines will help measure your progress and success. The point or purpose for making timelines and deadlines is to get you to take action. Dungy stated "your actions speak louder than your words" (Dungy, 2008). When setting a timeline make sure to be specific on the date and time. The most successful person is that person who knows how to decide on time. Achieving goals does not happen overnight it's a process that takes time. Be patience and work at a pace that's comfortable for you. You have to invest time to improve yourself and your goals. As Dungy said "the easiest way is not always the best way the right way is the best way" (Dungy,
2008). Finally, imagining yourself successful. If you can’t clearly imagine what life looks like after the attainment of your success, then it isn’t real. And if it isn’t real in your mind, then it will never be real in the here and now. To achieve success you have to want it desperately, and if you are desperate enough then you will find a way to have a small piece of it now. To achieve your success you need to be able to clearly imagine what it will look and feel like. You need to be able to sit down and draw out a ordinary day or week for your future life. Instead of beginning with a plan of how to achieve the success you’re after, begin by imagining your life after you’ve achieved your goal. Setting goals, overcoming failure, setting a timeline to achieve your goals, and imagining yourself successful is success. I believe if you can do these four simple things you can achieve success. As Dungy said " God's definition of success is really one off significance-the significant difference our lives can make in the lives of others (184).
