Definition Essay On Being Brave
“Being brave means knowing that when you fail, you don’t fail forever.” These words were spoken by Lana Del Rey. Bravery is not running away from your fears and problems. It is not letting your negative thoughts take you over or letting it stop you from anything you want to do. It is also used to help you break through the barriers. It’s having the courage to do something you don’t want to do and trying something new. Bravery is used to overcome your fears, express what you believe in, and be selfless.
To begin with, many tend to have a misconception on the word bravery. Usually when you think of “bravery”, you think of being “fearless”. Well it does not necessarily mean being fearless, it means you are full of fear but you’re not letting it take you over. From the movie Divergent, it says “it’s when you are acting selflessly that you are at your bravest.” Bravery is putting yourself in danger or difficult situations in order to protect or benefit others. For instance, surgeons completes hours of surgery just for their patient to live better. Firefighters risk their lives to go into a burning building to save those who are trapped inside. Teachers give up their time to assure that their students understand the concepts. Police, lawyers, military all give their time to protect the citizens and our country. Being brave is taking risks to make life easier for another. Overall, bravery is rare but is internationally known. It is being able to build up your courage and undergo difficult situations to benefit others or yourself. Many people fear things, which is the opposite of bravery. Its purpose is to put your fear aside and express the way you feel or serve others.
