Definition Essay: The Word Lazy
“Take out the trash!” My mom screeched from the kitchen. I slowly shimmied my way toward the door. I was extremely tired, we had a football game and I tried my hardest. We actually won. But anyway I scurried the rest of the way toward the door. When I then totally forgot what my mom said grabbed my towel and headed straight for the shower. “Dang you're so lazy” my mom said with steam rushing her face from my hot shower. I also remember another time I was called “lazy” but it was way worse. It was when I was just a little kid about 8 years old. And my neighbors window got broken into. So then my neighbors right away blamed us. They called us a bunch of “lazy Mexicans”. They even called the cops on us even though we didn’t do it. The word lazy actually comes from low Germany. In Germany it’s actually spelled laysy. It was first invented way back around 1540’s - 1550’s. Lazy is defined as incapable of moving or …show more content…
Someone who is lazy can never do something by themselves. Someone who is lazy always needs someone else to do their work while they slouch. Lazy people are known for slacking off. The word lazy shouldn’t be avoided because a lot of people say it even though it’s not true. Like I always hear that Mexicans are lazy. Also that Mexicans are poor because we are lazy. But this isn’t true because 75% of farm workers are Mexican. And they put in a lot of hours working in the hot sun for very little money. A man Cesar Chavez actually protested to raise wage and it eventually went up in the 60’s. Any ways Mexicans are sometimes labeled “lazy” just because of our skin color. We are not lazy because of the hours we put in working in the fields. I remember my grandpa saying that sometimes he'll leave 5:00 am and come back like 8:00 pm. This is why it’s very important to learn what the word lazy means. Also to never judge a book by it’s

The 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, purposely spat at a black accountant: “Black guys counting my money! I hate it… I think that the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault, because laziness is a trait in blacks.” In modern day society, stigma around the African-American race is still prevalent leaving ignorant people expressing harsh assertions, which are not true. African immigrants, from different areas of the continent, and African-Americans possess traits of utmost valor to surpass the injustice and brutality of their lives.…

But that word has developed over the many, many years it's been around in this country. People tend to assume one’s work ethic is the same as the stereotypical person of their race. A boss or owner of a company could be biased on a person’s skin color. In certain establishments and companies people of white background get paid a higher salary than those of differing backgrounds. This is typically because white people are portrayed as being wealthier than Hispanics, blacks, or Asians and demand to work for a higher salary under better conditions. Whereas hispanics are typically portrayed as a hard worker even under minimum wage and poor conditions. Mexicans battle this issue dramatically also; they are excellent workers, but often do hard manual…

In the movie when the Latinos disappear, Americans are lost and do not know how to do simple things in life, because they have some Latinos do it for them. This movie shows how people rely on Latinos to do jobs that most people do not want to do. The movie has a good example of how Americans are dependent on Latinos. The senator's wife is so dependent on her maid. Her maid is a Latina that used to do everything for her, but when the maid disappeared the senator's wife doesn’t know how to do simple anything. She doesn’t know how to cook, laundry or clean the house because she used to have a Latina. There are many issues of race and dealing with prejudice and discrimination because of being Hispanic. In the film, they make an important point about the difference between Hispanics and Mexicans. As in another part of the movie, the senator's wife hires two illegal Latinos to paint the house, but when the senator finds the illegal Latinos in his house he took them out. The next day the senator says "they are illegal Mexicans from Guatemalans and Hondurans". Guatemalans and Hondurans are not Mexicans. They think that all Latinos are Mexicans because they speak Spanish. There are about forty countries south of the United States and Mexico border which…

This is one of the quotes that has made Donald Trump gain so much attention and fame in the last two months. Why? Because he is stereotyping the Latin American race. Unfortunately, Mr. Trump is not the only person in the world to stereotype against the Latin American race. Many people around the world may assume that the Latin American race is all about the spicy food, the distinct mariachi music, and the clothes, and the language. In the United States, the stereotype that many people have against us have changed over time. Now, it’s that we only work as carpenters, lawn mowers, restaurants, and any other type of leftover job that other people do not want; and we all know what Donald Trump’s stereotypes of Latin Americans are: drug dealers,…

Everyone growing up in America has a choice. That choice is to either get an education and go to work, or to be lazy and not do anything with their life except steal from the people who have worked hard in life. The people who didn’t work hard with a job or in school when they were young are the people the hard workers will pay for in the future.…

I was born here in the United States, however my mom is from Guatemala and my dad is from Mexico. Hearing these kinds of stereotypes can be offensive and sometimes even hurtful to me coming from a Mexican background. Years ago my parents had illegally crossed the border from Mexico into the United States by trying to escape from all of the drug trafficking and terrible living conditions that were going on in their countries. It wasn’t easy for them to find a job here since hardly any company would hire an illegal immigrant. After a long time of searching, my dad finally found a job working as a painter at some fancy apartments, and my mom as a housekeeper. Both my parents work hard for what little they earn. Sadly neither of them finished graduating high school due to lack of money. Now it is up to me to make a difference and be the first in my family’s generation to graduate high school and college and live a successful life.…

Thesis: Although the United States of America has branched away to form their own government system, a group of parties seem to develop over time. The Federalist Party, who is proudly run by Hamilton, and the Democratic-Republican, who is run by Jefferson, both use ways to indulge themselves in making the United States a much better place to live compared to what they use to live under England’s rule.…

The largest and fastest growing minority population in the United States today is commonly referred to as “Latinos,” (Peterson-Iyer, 2008). Latinos are hard working people that come to this country searching for better opportunities. Since the 1946 the Anglo media have been using stereotypes to portray Latinos as a treat to the country. Latinos are often seen as illegal aliens, criminals, terrorist, poor and lazy people. Richard Henry Dana reported in his book that Mexicans in California were too lazy to develop their own lands, he also quoted that, “Nothing but the character of the people prevents Monterey from becoming a great town.” (1949, pg. 83). Also politics use metaphors like “the sleepy giant never woke up,” to depict Latinos lack of intelligence. The government…

Unfair working conditions have been a problem for a long time it could be dated way back to when people used to have slaves working for them. Migrant workers even had to deal with racism on daily as stated by this article from the UXL Hispanic American Biography, “Mexican American workers also faced discrimination and segregation on a daily basis”(Benson 1). This shows that they not only dealt with underpay and unfair conditions but they also had to deal with racism. People view this as an issue because due to the low wages and constant moving parents struggled to put their kids through proper education. For example Cesar Chavez himself only received education up until the 8th grade as stated in this article on Cesar Chavez from the UXL Hispanic American Biography, “And because their families had to move wherever there was work, migrant workers’ children didn’t have much chance of getting the structured education they needed to escape the cycle of poverty and hard labor and inhuman living conditions. In fact, Cesar Chavez’s formal education came to an end for the most part when he moved to California.”(Benson 1). This shows that not even Cesar Chavez was really able to escape from poverty. I believe this is because most people don’t tend to hire people without a high school education. Since the children don’t have enough education they can’t really find a job that…

    Why Essays Are Stupid

    • 284 Words

Essays are gay for several reasons. Nobody likes writing them because they aren't fun to do. why do something that's not fun? They also are time consuming and do nothing but make some teacher happy that they kept you busy with such stupid busywork. When's the last time you saw somebody who was not a student write an essay? That's like seeing a flying purple hippo take a dump on a cop car while smoking a blunt. It doesn't happen. There are some people who get off on writing essays, definately not anyone in the right mind, but usually some little queer in the closet who can't make friends and sucks dick for coke. Of course they never tell anybody about it, but rumor has it that it still goes on behind closed doors. You'd be amazed at the secret lives nerds leave, they are some strange people. Teachers have good intentions, but are still pretty dumb. not quite as dumb as police officer, but equally ignorant. Ever notice how tv is nothing like real life, even though it's supposed to reflect it? I always thought that they were supposed to be similar, but I was usually stoned at the time. They obviously spice up TV because life is too boring to make a tv show of. And when they do, it's called real world. That show was stupider than hell, I couldn't believe, still don't believe that a show like that could be successfull. So in conclusion, that is why essays are gay, and so are teachers. May hippos shit on cop cars and spark it all night long. peace out…

Growing up in a predominately white, small town in Utah, my peers often referred to me as “the Mexican.” I enjoyed a mainly lower-middle-class upbringing and while there were times my family needed food stamps and other government aid to survive, necessity afforded me the opportunity to gain a strong work ethic at a young age. I began my first job at 12 and by age 18, I provided for all of my living and educational expenses on my own. Working at such a young age was not common among my peers and this added to their perception of me being “the Mexican.”…
