Definition Essay: What Motivates Me
What Motivates you?
What motivates me is quite a few things, but what motivates me the most is failure. Failure motivates me the most because I can learn from my mistakes, another reason failure motivates me is because it makes you stronger. One reason why failure motivates me is because you can learn from it. You can look back on your mistakes and understand what you did wrong, you can fix the mistake if you get the chance or just learn from it and do better next time. When you succeed you don't necessarily learn from it because your success could've been a mistake if you took a test and guessed and got it correct you will never learn what the true answer is, or if you're doing an experiment and guess and get it correct you might

This is probably the part where you see someone put a cliché quote that inspires them, but I’m going to jump right into this. The value of failure is something you should learn in life, because failure can teach you a new mentality to do things, like working hard and trying to get better or quitting because someone can’t deal with failure.…

Failure, when pertaining to human achievement is the act of not reaching success. Failure, though, in its own right is just an idea because as Winston Churchill once said, “ Success is not final, failure is not final; it is the courage to continue that counts.” This is a lesson I learned at the end of my freshman year of high school. Freshman year wasn’t my best year academically, athletically, or socially. I wasn’t specifically failing in any of those areas, but I released at the end of year how strikingly mundane I had been when I thought I should have been exceling. I beat myself up, considering anything less than my expectations a failure. I wanted to give up and not care. The weird thing is though, is that this mishap I had didn’t detour…

My experience with failure came with athletics. For my whole life I have always been involved in sports like soccer, tennis, basketball. When I was in the fourth grade I joined a swim team and that was the first and really only sport that I stuck with; swimming came naturally to me, and it was something that I could do year round and I loved every minute of it. However, once I was in high school I stopped swimming and joined my high school’s cross country team. My dad was a runner all throughout high school so I thought it would be a good idea to give the sport my father loved a chance. The cross country team allowed me to grow, and I learned things about myself including that fact that I can’t run. It’s not that I can’t physically run, I have…

As children, many of us are offered treats or rewards such as dolls to influence the effort we put towards a task or chore. Take my friend for example, she was offered gummy bears as a reward for going to the bathroom on the toilet. This is a technique I’m sure many of our parents have used to potty train their children. Although my friend’s experience as a child is a rather simple example, motivation exceeds one’s childhood and is used throughout an individual’s entire life.…

For some people it takes forever to figure out that failure is not always a bad thing, while at the time it may seem like the end of the world. “We are all potentially capable of any human act.” (Roth 39). Even the most successful of people have failed at something at least once in their lives. Maybe consider though, that failure was what brought them back up to the best, hardest working person that they could be and it did not take long for them to retrieve what they had lost and made it ten times better!…

“If you do not try you will not go far." That is all the "motivation" I get to help me take my education seriously. Coming from a family who is not strict enough and does not set limits has disappointments. For example, my older siblings were not graduating high school and relying on my parents for anything. My parents have not learned to let go and say “no.” Lousy guidance is what surrounds me and it motivates me to do better.…

Not failing doesn’t make you successful but the reaction towards failure helps to buffer the experiences that you’ve had. I have one response to failure-pragmatism, being pragmatic that if one door has closed other will surely open. Failure gives me an incentive to hit it back harder. Failure has given me clarity of sticking to myself and snatched me away from distracting me from the core. Failure is a fiendish friend it lets you know who your real friends are and the strength of your relationship is tested in strong…
