Sometimes when people think about the calming sound of a night-time melody, the catchy beat of a popular song, or simply the words in a poem that captures how you feel and you can perfectly relate to. What comes to mind when we mention a poem? Usually what people think or what people’s thoughts go to, are emotions and rhyme. I think it takes a little more of each person’s perspective into the situation, not only the writer’s but also the reader’s perspective, which is what gives that extra spark to the piece. The literary element that is the most important to bring a poem to life is imagery; it would help the reader…
When reading literature the author tries to establish emotion, satire, tone, and farce as well as other feelings and thoughts. When an author writes a poem they try to establish a feeling making the reader feel as if they are involved in the work being produced weather is be happy, sad, funny, or scary.…
One of my favorite poems is “poetry.” Poetry is a poem about poets using poetry to express themselves and not to impress anybody. She uses metaphors to show what poetry is, she says “A poem is pure energy.” These types of metaphors help the reader picture what the poems trying to say. She also uses personification to also have a better understanding.…

Poetry appeals to our understanding through our imagination by making us see what the poet has seen, hear what the poet has heard and experience the poet wants us to feel.…
Poetry is different from fiction literature because of the detail within it. Poetry explains more by corresponding emotion and detail rather than ordinary language. Poetry delivers emotion and thought deliberately because it is made to do so. When reading poetry it is important to read to hear the sounds because it is meant to be heard. Interpreting the true meaning within a poem can be challenging because poetry uses intense figurative language and symbolism. Figurative language helps the reader know the mood of the scene in a poem. One of the most important types of figurative language is Allegory. Allegory can be referred to as the second meaning of a word or phrase in a poem. It can also be referred to as an extended metaphor because it the word or phrase goes beyond the surface of thought. In poetry, the average word has two component parts: denotation and connotation. Denotation is the dictionary meaning of the word while connotations are what the word suggests or what it expresses. For instance, the denotation of the word happy can be referred to as the act of happiness but the connotation of the word happy varies within different individuals because different things make individuals happy. Another important aspect of poetry is imagery. Imagery can be defined as the representation through language of sense experience. Because poetry appeals directly to the readers senses, imagery is key to a successful poem.…
In today's modern view, poetry has become more than just paragraphs that rhyme at the end of each sentence. If the reader has an open mind and the ability to read in between the lines, they discover more than they have bargained for. Some poems might have stories of suffering or abuse, while others contain happy times and great joy. Regardless of what the poems contains, all poems display an expression. That very moment when the writer begins his mental journey with that pen and paper is where all feelings are let out. As poetry is continues to be written, the reader begins to see patterns within each poem. On the other hand, poems have nothing at all in common with one another. A good example of this is in two poems by a famous writer by the name of Langston Hughes. A well-known writer that still gets credit today for pomes like " Theme for English B" and "Let American be American Again."…

Emily Dickinson is known as one of the most unique and influential poets of all time. Many of her poems are recognized for their deep meanings and dark tones. She often wrote about unconventional themes of death and immortality. Less than a dozen of her eighteen hundred poems were published while she was alive. Today, Dickinson is known as one of the greatest American poets for her eccentric and truth seeking pieces of literature.…
What is the aim of the poem? Does it, for example, describe an experience, describe a place, or protest about something? Try asking yourself why the poet wrote the poem.…
Poets create poetry based on their lives and experiences. While reading poetry each reader can interpret what the poem is about. The reader can take those words and relate them back to their own lives. While I read the poetry I related the stories to own life and found that these people have problems greater than mine. Poetry taught me that I need to value and appreciate my life because some people have it worse.…

1)Throughout the poems of Emily Dickinson. She seems to have a new theme, idea, or tone in a different poem. One theme that is in poem 49 is based on her own life and what she experiences. This is proven when Dickinson mentions that “I never lost as much but twice...Twice have I stood a beggar.”(1-4), which shows that she lost a sort of person in her life, perhaps her dad because she turns poor and begs for money. However, in the poem 249 it is about life is good and you should enjoy it. It mentions “Wild Nights should be / Our luxury!”(3-4) which shows that wild nights represents being comfortable and having no regrets, no stress and worries. Throughout some of the poems, like poem 258 where the tone starts as Dickinson is trying to find her personality but then at the end the tone changes to a deep dark tone. Also, in the poems it seems like the tone that Dickinson includes is similar to each other because the tone…
An author writes a book or novel to have the whole story put right out for you with a clear cut beginning middle and end. A poet can write a “novel” in very minimal lines or a few verses. They tell a story but give the rest for you to think and ponder about. A poet uses multiple literary devices in one single poem. When reading a poem you have to decode or decipher what the poet is really trying to say. They may use metaphors, irony and much more, in the poem “I Finally managed to speak to her”, the poet, Hal Sirowitz uses both of these literary devices.…
