RQ#1: Why does deforestation rampantly occur in less developed and poor countries such as Honduras?
RQ#2: How does deforestation in Honduras contributes to global warming that leads to natural catastrophes?
Methodology
This study achieved its findings by analyzing the severity of deforestation in Honduras based on those areas which have already reported severe forest damages and are already alerting for immediate attention and preservation. Also, the natural calamities and other harmful environmental conditions that strike the country were given considerable attention. Deforestation will not occur without the driving factors that …show more content…
As a result, Honduras is loosing massive parts of its forest each year. No matter how persistent some concerned groups are in stopping this phenomenon, it is inevitably happening. With the increasing global awareness on the distinctive relationship between deforestation and global warming, many have already addressed the issue and started to protect and preserve our planet’s forest. Some countries that have realized the importance of forest, have already reported positive net change of forest over the past years using the process of reforestation and natural expansion of forest, however, there are still countries that report negative change over the past years. Unfortunately, Honduras is among those countries reporting negative change.
Driving factors of Deforestation in Honduras It is important to have a glimpse of Honduras’ economy to understand the underlying reasons that drives deforestation which is widespread in the country. Honduras is the second poorest country in the western hemisphere and suffers greatly from extraordinarily unequal distribution of income, as well as high percentage of unemployment. While historically dependent on the export of bananas and coffee, Honduras has diversified its export base to include apparel and automobile wire harnessing.
