Deforestation: World Revolution
Vital Hazard Human beings harm against nature turns to be an undeniable issue. That has been happening in numerous ways for years, one of which is deforestation. Cutting down all the trees in a large area is called as deforestation. There are several reasons for damaging the forests. However, the most significant factor is human activities. These activities have some severe effects on forests. As indicated in “Deforestation: World Revolution”, today 31 million hectares of rain forests are destroyed every year which corresponds to area that is bigger than Poland (2003). Deforestation appears to be a significant issue and activated by following factors: shifting cultivation, commercial logging and clear-cutting. The first major reason for deforestation appears to be shifting cultivation. Shifting cultivation is a type of land-usage system in which fields are farmed temporarily. To begin with, people continually affect the forests in that way as they aim to acquire crops and graze spaces. Also, intensive farming has destructive influences on deforestation. According to “Cool Planet”, if there is not enough time to regain from exhaustive agriculture, soil degradation …show more content…
This is generally triggered by lack of land and government activities. First, some peasants without land for farming might cause deforestation. Based on the Smith’s article “Politics and Deforestation”, peasants who have no field in their homelands, settle in forests for farming intentions. A political regulation about distribution of lands causes this situation (n.d.). Furthermore, government activities may bring about deforestation as well. Supporting immigration for the purpose of production increase is an example for these acts. They intend to raise revenues in this way without paying attention to nature. In brief, clear cutting in forests strikingly accelerate

This chapter was very informative and gave a lot of information about the reasons of deforestation. I knew that logging and agriculture were major causes of deforestation, but this chapter taught me that mining too is also a big factor. The author was very knowledgeable about this subject and wrote in a way that was very easy to understand. This chapter also gave a very thorough explanation of the impacts of deforestation on the lands. Through this chapter, the author explains how just because a few trees are cut down, the water supply diminishes and can lead to drought as well as many other issues that I did not know about. This is probably my favourite source about this deforestation problem as it was easy to understand and the author did not drag out his writing and got to the point very quickly. It was a good read!…

Deforestation is an ongoing issue throughout the world. To this date, we have lost more than 75 percent of the forests on Earth. Deforestation is the clearing of forests to make way for new, non-forest land uses, such as urban development or agriculture, transforming a forest into cleared land (“Deforestation and Afforestation”). When thinking about deforestation, the first place that comes in anyone’s mind is Brazil, because that is where the Amazon rainforest is located and it was once known to have the highest deforestation rate in the world. However, Canada, which accounts for “10 percent of the world’s forests…now accounts for 21 percent of all deforestation in the world” (Okolo). Due…

To understand why deforestation is such a pressing and urgent issue, forests must first be given credit for what they bring to global ecosystems and the quality of life that all species maintain. The forests have global implications not just on life but on the quality of it. Trees improve the quality of the air that species breath by trapping carbon and other particles produced by pollution. Because of the deforestation of the rainforest, nearly half of the world 's species of plants, animals and microorganisms will be destroyed or severely threatened over the next quarter century…

There are also local causes such as the Agricultural reasons. Forests are also cut down to clear land for growing crops, build farms, ranches and other food growing lands. The process of plantation is one of the causes which increased deforestation rates. It clears a patch of land to grow crops by slash and burn. The patch is then deserted until the soil regains its fertility. While plantation clears land by burning it, Shifting Cultivation still is as bad as Plantations as a large agricultural area is usually used for growing one crop such as bananas, coffee, cocoa and rubber. This process is usually carried out by…

    Rainforest Destruction

The rainforests of the world all have one thing in common: they are all based around the equator and the tropics. Without them, many of our household products such as wooden furniture and basic necessities like coal and even air would not exist. We are losing all of our raw materials up just as we are beginning to appreciate their true value. Rainforests once covered 14% of the earth's land surface; now they cover a mere 6% and scientists estimate that the last remaining rainforests could be drained in less than 40 years. One and a half acres of rainforest are being destroyed every second because the value of rainforest land is so high due to the value of its timber by short-sighted governments, multi-national logging companies, and land owners. Because of our greedy nature, we destroy 137 plant, animal and insect species every single day. If you don’t want to be part of this “we”, and feel you show some kind of response to the life threatening process of deforestation, read on.…

Deforestation, the destruction of natural rain forests, has been a major problem in the world today; caused primarily by human activities for development and population expansion. One of the main forests that have been affected is the Amazon Rainforest in South America. The main causes of deforestation in the Amazon are cattle ranching, subsistence and commercial agriculture, infrastructure, illegal and legal logging, and other minor factors such as fires, road construction, mining, and dams. Deforestation plays a negative toll on the world by killing millions of animals, plants, and insects each day and releasing greenhouse gases.…

One of the effects of deforestation is global warming which is an irreversible process. As trees are burnt down to increase usable land, huge amounts of carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere through combustion. Also, the stored carbon that is soaked up by the trees in their lifetime will also be released into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming. From food to life-saving medicines, forests give mankind a variety of gifts that contribute much to our quality of life. Deforestation will cause the destruction and extinction of many plants and animals.…

There are many environmental problems which is caused by deforestation. One of it is the loss of habitat. Many animals were forced out of their habitat when deforestation takes place. Animals would not have a place to live and they would not have enough food in the remaining forest areas. Many animals died because of this and inevitably they have to face extinction. Many species of plants were also lost as they were chopped down to serve the human cause. Biodiversity was also affected as certain agricultural plants would become dominant in certain areas. In Malaysia, oil palm became the dominant species while the other species of plants would lose out and face extinction.…
