Webster Dictionary defines deism as “a movement or system of thought advocating natural religion, emphasizing morality, and in the 18th century denying the interference of the Creator with the laws of the universe.” This basically means there is a god and he created everything, but then stepped back and let the earth operate all on its own, without his help. He exists but isn’t involved. Another word for deism could be rationalism, which means a belief based on reason.
Deism is a natural religion. Deists believe that every person posses human reasoning. It offers protection from cults or other evil religious outlets, such as the Bible and the Koran. Deists believe the creator is unchangeable, they believe this creator is not capable
of giving people misery such as exterminating men. They reject violence. They believe that if a person can force themselves to think positive thoughts they can force something to be a positive situation; it is within their human powers. Deists believe that people can make their lives, and the world, a better place if they just force themselves to think positively. One of the more well-known deists Thomas Paine said “But in Deism our reason and our belief become happily united. The wonderful structure of the universe, and everything we behold in the system of the creation, prove to us, far better than books can do, the existence of a God, and at the same time proclaim His attributes.”
Deistic beliefs towards the creator are similar to a clockmaker. A clockmaker takes the time, and they make this perfectly detailed clock. They eventually finish the clock and just step back, and let the clock owner do what they want to do with it. They don’t check if the watch works perfectly, or if it is damaged once their watch is done being made. That’s how deists view God. They view him as a creator who made the world and just stepped back and let it go. He doesn’t care if it’s damaged.
Deism isn’t the belief in an active God. They do not believe in the trinity, and they don’t believe that you should refer to God as a king. If God were a king he would be involved. They don’t believe that life is out of their control, they believe people can control everything with their positive thoughts.
