The story of Demeter’s rape was mentioned by a Greek geographer in a travelogues. It took place in the 2nd century A.D. When Demeter was searching for her daughter, Poseidon fell in love with Demeter’s beauty. Realising this, Demeter transformed herself into a horse but, Poseidon was not fooled. He then also transformed himself into a horse and raped Demeter. Demeter later gave birth to Arion, a horse, and Despoine, a human daughter.
