Everyday thousands of people undergo some sort of medical or dental procedure during which they have some sort of material implanted into their bodies. Yet, most people do not give much thought as to what materials are being implanted, and how they may react with the body. One perfect example of this would be having a cavity filled. In today¡¯s society dentists use various different materials and methods to fill cavities. Yet, the oldest and perhaps most effective is dental amalgam.…

The dental team will begin by thoroughly cleaning the teeth set to be sealed, and then they will surround the teeth with cotton to keep the area dry. Next, the dentist will apply a special solution to the enamel, which will help the sealant bond to the teeth. After rinsing and drying the teeth once more, the sealant material is then carefully added to the enamel surface of the teeth to cover deep grooves and depressions. There are multiple types of sealants that can be used, and depending on which one your dentist chooses, it will either harden immediately after application or will require the dentist to use a special curing…

It is hypothesized the zinc metal will have a precipitation reaction with the solution of copper II sulfate, because zinc is more reactive then copper and it could displace the copper ions from the solution (CuSO4). And because of that there is no reaction between copper and the solution of copper II sulfate.…

    Composite Fillings

There are two types of dental fillings that most people know about, the amalgam also known as those big silver fillings, which seem to be not the prettiest looking ones in your mouth. Or the other choice is the composite also known as tooth-colored fillings, which you can’t even tell they are in there. The most common known that has been used for over one hundred and fifty years is the amalgam. The newest craze is the resin base composite filling that is tooth-colored, which first made its appearance in the 1960’s. I have found out by working for a couple of dentists that they will tend to use one more than the other. The big question is: which is the most reliable material to have placed? Both of these two restorative materials have good qualities and bad qualities. But like the old saying goes, “Which one is going to give you the most bang for your buck?”…

Abrasive flow machining (AFM) was firstly developed fifty years ago by Extrude Hone Corporation, USA. By using the liquid viscoelastic material with easy flowability made of polymer and abrasive grains, AFM can be used to polish, deburr and radius for the workpiece. There are three kinds of AFM: one-way AFM, two-way AFM and orbital AFM [1]. In this case to manufacture the cylinder heads, consider of two-way AFM is much more widely used and its technology is more mature, we also choose the two-way AFM to do the surface finishing. Schematic of two-way flow shows in figure below.…

For experiment silica gel or Sodium Meta Silicate is used to prepare gel. Sodium Meta Silicate (SMS) solution was prepared by Distilled Water. The solution was filtered by the filter paper about 4 to 5 times. For different pH, the Acitic Acid was poured in to the solution. Pour different test tubes for different pH. To avoid porous gel and decomposition, 3N Thiourea using stirrer at 42o C temperature were prepared. These thiourea as a feed solution was poured in the different pH test tubes which is filled with the SMS solution. Zinc Sulfate Heptahydrate (AR Grade) and Thiourea (AR Grade) were taken in 1:3 ratios. Then, gel solution was allowed to set at ambient temperature. After completing reaction between Zinc Sulphate Heptahydrate and Thiourea, by following reaction ZTS crystal was synthesised within 4-6…
