Description Of The Loggerhead Sea Turtle

The Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta caretta) is an aquatic reptile, which are given their name for their large skull and powerful jaws. Adults can weigh anywhere from 155 and 375 pounds, making them one of the largest hard-shelled sea turtles in the world. Their shells are mostly brown with yellowish spots and yellow underbellies. As many sea turtles do, females come ashore during summer to nest. Once hatched, juvenile turtles make their way to the ocean. From nest to shore is one of the most dangerous moments of their lives; they can be attacked by ocean birds, rodents, or distracted by city lights. Once grown, they return to nearly the same spot they were born every few years to start the next generation.
