A Park By The Memory Lane
As I was growing up I had the fortune to travel different countries and being away from the home country for educational purposes since 2010, I also got to experience a lots of different cultures, environment and places. It’s really confusing for me if someone asks me to describe the most pleasant place in my list out of all these places I have ever been. After giving it much thought I finally made my decision. The most pleasant place in my diary would be ‘Bipin Park’ in my home town ‘Mymensingh’; one of the biggest cities in Bangladesh.
Being the only son of the family, I was always at the center of attention. My uncle, Aziz, 6 years older than me, used to live with us while he was attending college. From 2001-2004, these four years he was my best friend, partner in crimes. He always thought of him as my elder brother not my uncle. He played a very important role to help me become the person I am today. Soccer is his life and so is mine. During weekdays at 3:30pm he used to go to the park for practice. He played as the Right wing for a local club called ‘Abahoni Football Club’. I used to be the one carrying his duffle bag as I used to go with him all the time. Soccer and my uncle Aziz isn’t the only two things that come to my mind when I think of Bipin Park, there is more. Brahmaputra River, Sarinda Café, 17 small tea stalls, many street food vendors and snack shops, boats will colorful sail on the river, the homeless artist ‘Jamal’ and etc. all these elements give character to this park. May be I am writing about Bipin Park as my most pleasant place because a whole lots of good memories had been made in this place but I disagree to admit so. I mean it could be a very good reason but that’s not the main reason for me to choose this as the most pleasant place.
The park has two standard sized soccer fields, 4 volleyball courts. Right beside the soccer

When I was a little girl I use to always go to the park and while swinging I would imagine how much cooler it would be to live in a big city with lots of people and many things to see and experience. I never would have thought that at my age I would be sitting and relishing all the amazing times I had in my small home town. The family traditions, slow living and many childhood memories hold my heart in my hometown of Norfolk Nebraska. The boldly colored green grass, light brown cat tails lining the lake shore and fishing poles hanging off a dock all are vivid in my mind when thinking about the weekends I experienced in my adolescence.…

“When you smoke herb, it reveals yourself to you,” is a famous quote of the pothead and marvelous musician Bob Marley. He felt as though marijuana helped tune in with your inner being. I believe cannabis that cannabis does this too and therefore have become a habitual marijuana consumer. Being in tune with ones inner being is important, yet not the reason that I smoke cannabis. “She’s hideous!” Said my best friend Brando, short for Brandon. “Just do it!” he kept saying, along with his brother Kevin. I was afraid. “Don’t be such a pussy.” Kevin yelled as he pushed me forward, almost knocking me off my feet and into the cross street at the top of our cul-de-sac. That was where the house stood. Directly across Mountain Ave. That was where she would appear, the “hideous” woman. The one we all called Bloody Mary. All you had to do was approach the dingy house where the old wooden rocking chair on the porch would rock back and forth, back and forth, even on the most calm nights. All you had to do to make her appear was go right up to the rocking chair and say her name three times with your eyes closed. They said that once you opened them, she would be sitting in the rocking chair before you, her face burned and bloody and wretchedly gesticulating as she stared into your soul. I had never done the deed. I had only heard the stories. And there I stood, receiving the peer pressure that we were all so quick to inflict on others, but cringed inside when it was brought down upon us. There I stood, searching my mind for any excuse to not cross Mountain Avenue that Saturday night.…

One of my most unforgettable memory was when we rented a small house near a beach. We still have yet to visit the falls. It was early in the morning where the sun has still yet to meet the sky. It was just my cousin and I sitting comfortably in the white sand. Everyone else were still fast asleep which automatically placed us to guard our belongings. I did not know of what my cousin was doing beside me but I vividly remembered how the cool breeze grazed against my skin while I set my eyes on the beautiful scenery in front of me. I held my legs close to my heart and admired the vastness and beauty of the sea. I remembered thinking back to few splendid memories while in the trip. It may not be written anywhere but in our minds and souls. First, I remembered the sing-a-longs we sang while in the car during the road trip. Lastly, are the fun times we all helped in preparing our dinner by grilling the ribs upon arriving at the small house and how we all looked so youthful and full of gleeful grins while teasing each other back and forth. After reminiscing those amazing memories, it made me feel warm inside and smile at how a hasty trip with several setbacks created a solid bond of unity amongst fellow cousins. Nevertheless, the serendipitous memory at the beach will be a constant reminder for a bigger lesson to save for the future. That memory in the beach made me realize how wrong I was to judge how a situation based only on the complications. Moreover, it made me discover what it actually means to enjoy life in the smallest bits found in…

We all have that favorite place from our childhood where many of our happiest memories take place. For someone it is a special spot where something extraordinary happened. Other people might remember something as simple as their own tiny backyard where they used to play soccer in the summer holidays.
