Special Day
There are not too many sunny days in the winter like today. It’s a little bit chilly, but nothing unusual for the weather in December. Stepping outside the house and going to take the Oath of Allegiance, in order to become a citizen, the fresh cold air clears my head and worries. I look for as many details as I can capture. The first thing that draws my attention is a clear blue sky. Its color is so pure that it almost looks unreal. A few clouds spread around the sky forming interesting shapes. On the horizon a vapor trail of an airplane draws a perfect straight line. The bright sunshine makes me squint. A cold wind occasionally whips around and causes me to shiver. I go inside of the car to get some cover. As I lean on the seat to get more comfortable, I start driving and I continue to look outside.
Constant noise of the cars driving by on Sunrise Highway distracts me from being worried about what is going to happen soon. I can see trees and bushes through the window that are planted along the road forming a fence line. The leafless bushes are trimmed at the top so evenly, as if someone used a ruler to cut them. On the power lines above a few birds rock back and forth as if they are sitting on the swing set. The sound of the cars roaring down the road is loud and gets even louder as trucks drive by. It quiets for a minute as white truck stops at the light and then comes back to life as the light changes to green.
I can see the Supreme Court on the right and straight ahead is a parking lot with huge variety of cars parked there. A giant Ford truck with a lift kit on it towers above all else. The truck is so huge that it makes me wonder how the owner gets in and out of this monster.
As I walk to the Supreme Court, I get overwhelmed by too many people surrounding me. Some of them sit on the sidewalk, while others walk around. I wonder what they think. What the purpose for them to be here? Young couple to my right smoke cigarettes and I can smell

Here in this small community, seemingly blocked off from the rest of the world, lies a small slate colored house with a large white tarp sheltering the driveway. Adjacent to it, is a fairly large camping trailer that, if it's lucky, gets used for its intended purpose. The maroon deck in the foreground brings life and color to the dull, 1- story house. The front yard, in which I spent my childhood, seems everlastingly covered with the blades of the towering trees that I have grown so accustomed to. The aroma of the rainfall the night prior still lingers in the air, even as the sun begins to rise over the dewy, frost ridden lawn. Here, in the confines of my own habitat, listening to the songs of the morning birds and the blue jays, is where I connected with my surroundings. Here, is where I call home..…

The last element of the whole evidence group is allusion. Throughout the story, Dorian is compared to the egotistical Narcissus of the Greek myth. Dorian’s unhealthy obsession with his portrait is paralleled to Narcissus's obsession with his reflection (page 123). This allusion hints about Dorian’s eventual fall. William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet allusion is shown throughout the book, and Dorian specifically refers to Sybil Vane, who plays as Juliet in the play.…

You feel the cool air warm up around yourself. There is a pleasantness that can only be found in these warm winter days. Birds squawk overhead. In a pack they fly in v’s. You wanted to fly, but the dream fled after you jumped off the deck. Birds gain height, you gained a broken arm. The birds slow and descend onto the small patch of grass to your left. Wildlife is all around you, but the adults don’t seem to notice. Not far ahead, a squirrel shoves acorns into his mouth, climbing up a tree he deposits his cache into a hole. He runs down the tree to start the process again. Nature is a cycle, a loop that won’t…

It was an oddly quiet Sunday morning in the middle of December. Clear skies, forests and beautiful snow-capped mountains dominated the views from my front porch. The temperature was mild, one of those days you could wear a thin sweater and be a little chilly. There were no birds chirping or butterflies fluttering, as they had all left to the south to find a more suitable environment for them or died. I had missed this type of day when you could relax in the peacefulness of the quiet morning…

I was so tired, even attempting to keep my eyes open was a struggle. My whole body was achy after a hard day’s of school work, constantly staring at a computer screen and typing away, just to finish an essay. My pale white hands, frozen by the air conditioning blasting on high, were holding on to the steering wheel like a person gripping the edge of a cliff, hoping not to fall into a dark abyss. My brain wanted to give in, to remain in the sleep that I kept dangerously drifting in and out of. I took a look outside, the road looking meek. The rows if brush hoars any objects spattered off the road by vehicles in the August sun. It felt like I was going around in a circle, my tires skating around the bends and turns of the road. I felt maybe I should slow down so I do not lose…

I am greeted into my back yard by the unfortunate screams of ambulances sirens, but I continue to focus on the subject and I slowly begin to notice that the sky is noticeably more vibrant than it had been in my pervious observation. The light from the sun complimented the bright blue sky very extravagantly, causing me to gawk at its beauty for minutes on end. Thankfully the wind is much milder, allowing me to sit down and enjoy myself as I take a long gaze into the distance. To the least of my expectations, it was very quiet in my back yard; no birds, no barking, no children playing, just pure silence. I’m not sure if I like the muteness, but despite the hush, the skyline speaks to me with its spectacular vastness and its magnificent color, breaking the previous silence I found myself trapped in. In conclusion, the colorful sky, the warm rays of sun, and the mild winds provided me an ideal atmosphere to enjoy the view; I am very content with this morning’s…

What’s better to chill out a hot summer’s day than something sweet and cool? No, I am not talking about a Popsicle. I am not talking about an ice cream cone, either. I am not even talking about iced tea or lemonade. It is something better than all of those, and it doesn’t even have all the sneaky calories of those other tasty treats! The answer to the question is simple. Have you guessed it? It is a cherry.…

On the other side of the window in the suburb of Lincolnshire, IL a ravishing scene is unfolding, one that definitely deserves a closer look. Once in the open air, it is obvious that it is that time of year again. My backyard has fully awoken from hibernating in its long, cold slumber and sprung to life. Gone is the dead of winter and half-consciousness of spring; here is the bright and busy season so long-awaited. I take a moment to allow the senses in my body to take over and intake the signals of the air that summer has arrived.…

When I was a sophomore in high school our basketball team made a good run into tournaments landing us in the elite eight final games. An apartment is a self contained housing unit that occupies only part of a building. Apartments may be owned (by an owner/occupier) or rented (by tenants). My first apartment was located in Brooklyn in the Flatbush section. It was a small but very conveniently located third floor apartment in a elevator building. The building only had five floors with a see through glass lobby entrance. The building had a doorman that worked from four until midnight. He was a very pleasant middle aged gentleman with a carribean accent. The lobby had a sunken waiting area with black leather sofa and arm chairs that looked like they were bought in the 1960`s, but well maintained. When you came into the building in the evening you could smell the strong scents of all types of seasoning especially curry due to the Indian family living near the elevator. When riding the elevator up to my apartment it would shake from side to side and occasionally would hold someone captive until the elevator repairman came to get them out. My apartment was located on the third floor. It had a small foyer with a small closet to the left, a living room that measured 11 feet by 17 feet . It also had a very small kitchen that only one person could cook in at a time otherwise you would be constantly bumping into the other cook. Next to the small kitchen was a half size bathroom whose vanity mirror would steam up due to not having any windows or a proper working ventilation duct. When you came out the bathroom to your right was a small bedroom that you could only get a minimal amount of furniture in. Basically this apartment was in the shape of a box that was sectioned off into four areas. To make it into a home I started with the living room, I painted the walls chocolate brown and bought a sofa to match. The sofa was made of a furry material so I bought an orange chaise lounge to go with the sofa. I also bought earth tone curtains to mellow out the loud look of the orange chaise. I placed the orange chaise…
