Magically Unique
The rusted beams, worn wooden siding, peeling paint, and a distinct smell that is all too familiar makes the barn my favorite place with my horse, Curly. It is my favorite because my world becomes just the two of us. The barn is the most fulfilling place, but it also has a component that makes it lonely, a feeling like we are the only ones in the world even when other people surround us. When I am with my horse, my world is shrunk down to the space that my horse and I are in.
The barn has so many things that make it unique and special to me. The shadows that the light coming though the windows and cracks in the walls make are unique to the barn. The barn is the only place in the world where the shadows are like that. The light dances along the floor and walls; it makes a dark and dingy barn look like it has crystals reflecting the light. The hallway between the stalls has multiple crevices where the dirt and dust settle in. Some people would be grossed out by the amount of dust/dirt. I find it peaceful. The dirt shows that it is well loved and used. The cobwebs on the ceiling give it a rustic appeal. The ceilings are also home to barn swallow nests and are they ever territorial. They come swooping down at such fast speeds the horses get spooked by them.
What is barn with out a pasture? It is just a building, with no character. The pasture gives the lone building character. When the horses are out in the pasture they clump together around on another or around the hay bails. The pasture isn’t in the best shape as it is very rocky. It is not the green rolling fields that some would equate with horse barns. The rocks make it hard for grass to grow and at the same time add character, contrast and a sense of being well love and used to the pasture. The other barns that I have been at have the green rolling hills; with this barn the different types of ground make it unique from other barns. The area

Cormac McCarthy shows how important horses can be to a cowboy in his great western classic All The Pretty Horses. Horses were once the backbone of American civilization, in an era before trains, cars, and airplanes. They were especially prominent in the mythic cowboy culture of the west. On a long ride a horse would serve a cowboy as transportation, and not to mention companionship in a solitary environment. A story of change, John Grady Cole, the protagonist, and his friend Lacy Rawlins embark on an adventure to find the cowboy lifestyle they want to live in Mexico. John Grady Cole exhibits an amazing gift that allows him to communicate with horses better then most other people. This ability and his respect for the animals quickly gains him respect among the “vaqueros” or Mexican cowboys. Throughout the novel, he learns that what he thinks of men and about his romantic idea of living in the world is completely false and wrong, and that horses are the only pure things he has left. Therefore, McCarthy’s title shows how life can change, and sometimes it is both cruel and ironic. It shows how much one person’s perspective can change due to the experiences they face. All The Pretty Horses makes you think that it’s a soft story, while upon reading a realizations is reached that is not about how horses are pretty but how evil men can be.…

In particular, they rescued one injured horse from a race track and decided to keep the horse with their barn. This opened Mati’s mind and she had a great idea. She and Hunter talked it over and decided to save money to expand the barn that they built many years prior. This new and bigger barn had thirty-two acres they had acquired from an elderly couple next door. She turned this into a horse sanctuary for horses that people either abandoned or could no longer afford to take care of them.…

This implies he was treated like an animal in the barn with the animals because he has to sleep in the box which is so uncomfortable. He doesn’t have the quality of life. Secondly, the use of the word ‘’STRAW’’ also enlarge the fact of animal imagery as only animals such as horses live in a barn with straw and to think a human being (crooks) is living in these conditions really emphasised the fact that he is being devaluated.…

The Rocking Horse is set in in an upper middle class home in London, England. The house can be considered upper-middle class because Lawrence described the house as both pleasant and run by servants. Further to this, the nursery within the home is described as ‘full of toys’. It is very well described that whenever the clang of horseshoes from outside the barn from the other men playing a game, the entire barn goes silent. No matter what conversation Lennie and Curley's wife are having, they instantly go quiet. This separates the reader and character from the barn to make them acknowledge the outside world.…

The passage is from "Of Mice and Men". Steinbeck describes Crooks' room for the first time. In this passage, Steinbeck is illustrating Crooks' barn to the reader as the setting on the passage. First, he describes everything in detail that is located in Crooks' barn while using powerful diction to clarify Crooks' character. Second, he describes Crooks' barn as his source of his pride and self-respect while reinstating his loneliness. Third, Steinbeck uses sound imagery to foreshadow and to set the tone of the passage, thus reinforcing the theme of loneliness by illustrating Crooks' barn in a sad, depressing tone.…
