Descriptive Essay: Flip Flap
Flip Flap, Flip Flap, was the sound of our treasured red, white, and blue banner that waved in the land of the free and the brave. Its awestriking appearance greeted my eyes as my family and I pulled into the bumpy, gravel parking lot that awaited our car’s arrival. As soon as my size 11 shoes hit the sun bathed ground of Charleston, South Carolina, I felt many of my troubles float off in the direction of the glistening Atlantic Ocean. Even though the 90 degree weather that enveloped Charleston during the summer scorched my tan desiring skin, it sent warmth throughout my body that shockingly caused me to shiver in delight. It sensed as if the whole world around me drifted away into the deep abyss of blue, foaming, water that rested on the horizon, …show more content…
I could see the intricate designs of grapevines that had been masterfully carved into the light oak posts that held the entryway above my head. Through a miniature window on the far side of the room, I could get a slight glance of the steaming pasta noodles that had been drenched in luscious red spaghetti sauce, before the waitress guided us to our seats. I could feel anticipation building up as the waitress guided us to one of the most well placed tables in the whole restaurant. The light brown, cloth drapes that rested against the smooth brick wall of the restaurant grazed my arm as I passed under one of the exits outside. As soon as the fresh air whipped my face, the noticeable scent of fresh chocolate mousse cake assaulted my nose. I could feel the soft, plush cushioning that rested underneath my backside as I sat down to great relief. My eyes scanned my surroundings, taking in all the sights and smells that I could contain within myself without being overwhelmed. Of all the places to be right then, Charleston was the one. I had experienced the smell of chocolate, the taste of lasagna, the sound of the ocean, the sight of warm, crisp sand, and the feeling of being happy and glad for what I

Classically, a flap has been defined as a “tongue of tissue containing skin and sub cutaneous tissues which carries its own blood supply and remains attached to the body at all times for its nourishment”. However, the evolution of flap surgery in the last five decades has been so rapid that this definition has become not only inaccurate but also highly inadequate. Thus, with the increasing knowledge of cutaneous vascular supply, development of microvascular techniques, increasing refinements in available flaps and rapid description of new flaps, a part of fibula or even omentum with its nutrient vascular pedicle is also now termed a flap. For a flap to survive, it must have a pedicle which remains attached to the body at all times or else is…

It was a windy, and chilly day in Newberry. The small old town that it was. The air frigid, and the trees bare as though a human is stripped down to its bare bones. The town was desolate except for supper time. The flags on the street would dance back and forth. Some stuck in the iced air. The light poles on the side of the streets would never light. Due to the shattered light bulbs that rarely glowed. For people would drive miles to go to Luke’s. It was basically the only thing open in Newberry. It was a rare diner that it was. It served coffee and donuts all day, and was open all the time. That was unique for Newberry. The town historic yet haloed. The smell of dust, linens, and must lingered in the streets. But the town was desolate, not…

Every year, my summer consist of my family and I traveling around the states. Boston Massachusetts, was one of the states that built the love and appreciation I have for nature. The Boston Tea Party Museum was located between Congress St and Seaport Blvd. The city its self was appealing. Trees and flowers you’d Normally see on the TV, Big Houses with paintings so bright you think it was painted every-week.The lawns was tidy, plantings and the trees were clipped to purity. Where I was standing, the sidewalks were smooth and clean. No cracks, no unruffled spots. It was the most errorless town I had ever seen. The museum was a long way from the neighbor I was at. The drive didn’t seem like it was half an hour; more like couple of minutes. From…

My stomach danced salsa and hip-hop at the same time. Yet it was a beautiful place like an enchanted forest, with huge pine trees like a green sky, picturesque blue mountains, and a sunny sky that was boiling. It is an outdoorsy place like a farm in the countryside. Ducks barked and ducklings were getting raised. It was so hot it seemed like the sun was cooking and roasting humans for lunch. Though the lake gave us good news, it was a cold iceberg that day, which was extraordinary news on a day in which you sweat so much. We walked around camp and took nice photos. The cabins welcomed you in, with their wood structure; they were cozy and an oven that kept you warm at night. My hair danced in the wind of a beautiful night, and the stars and fire danced along during…

Weather in Odessa was so hot that clothes would stick to your skin because of all the sweat. The town was quiet windy and dry to the point where your skin was cracked and it would just peel off by itself. In the beginning it felt like a town so empty with portions of lands to fill. When you would arrive you’d feel that emptiness, a feeling that made you feel powerless. When putting all the feelings aside, there were motels with cars parked in front because of how filthy and dirty they looked. Downtown were banks, movie theaters that were closed down, few restaurants you could attend and many different…

    What Is Fizzing Coke

Mason's mom, a natural cook, prepared a noon-time meal for the workers in the field. As she described the meal, I began to salivate. I could smell and taste the fried chicken, ham, and country fixing. In town, I felt as if I were walking down the sidewalk with as she described the scene. The taste of the peppermint ice cream festered as visualized them enjoying the taste as they sat on the filigreed wrought iron tables at the corner drug store. While working in the restaurant, she dispensed Coke for the customers. The sound of fizzing Coke over the crushed ice was very vivid. Her choice of language puts me in the environment as she described the…

It had rained recently and the scent of pine filled the car as we drove with our windows down. I noticed wet red dirt that resembled clay. I pointed out this discovery to the kids, whom were amazed at every new sight. The air was so clean, there was no scent of smog, to which I had grown accustomed, in my home town. We observed many trees and relished in their beauty. There were trees of all kinds ranging from pine, to cedar, hickory and many others. The colors that filled them made me realize, I had truly arrived. The scenery was so beautiful and welcoming. I was home and it felt that way from the moment I arrived. My children and I noticed fall leaves everywhere. All colors associated with autumn made me cry, I was just so happy and exhausted. I couldn’t wait to get out of the car and really relax. After about three days of driving I was totally worn out and suffered from a bad case of insomnia. In spite of it all, I was excited to start my new job and our new…

The air is warm as I scurry out of my tent. I stand on the bank of the Mississippi River watching it as it swiftly moves along; glittering in its bed as the early morning sun hits it. You can smell the dew on the grass, the fishy smell of the river, and the wet, musty smell of the woods nearby. I look beyond the river and see Nauvoo, the city of Joseph, in all its glory sitting there with the Nauvoo Temple looking like a gem, facing me across the river. I warm up by the fire and make a s’more. I head off to the showers to get ready for a big day in Nauvoo.…

    An Ethnic Experience

Of the details that really hang in my mind, one was definitely the mood of the restaurant. I went to Abyssinia Ethiopian Cuisine, a small unassuming place next to an ethnic market on a small street in Anaheim. I would have missed it, had I not been looking for the address. We parked in the first stall next to the door and went in about half an hour before close. A wave of deliciously spiced air greeted me and my boyfriend as an older lady with an enormous smile walked us into the next room and offered any seat in the house. Every table had a simple tablecloth, a vase and a single flower. The walls were covered with paintings, prints and the occasional mirror. At the back of the room, there was a table about two feet tall curiously topped with eight small cups and accompanied by a stool. I could not make out if it was for children to sit at or an offering table similar to those in some Asian cultures. Music played softly and I could not help but notice the similarities to the little Indian music I’ve heard, though this was certainly more soothing and relaxing. The lights were low and the ambiance was gentle, welcoming and ethnic at every…
