Desmond Doss: A Hero Or Hero?

Imagine that you are a soldier on a battlefield. Look around, all around you your allies are lying on the floor, either as dead bodies or wounded, crying out “MEDIC!”. Wouldn’t you help if you could? Desmond Doss is the man that did. He was an American combat medic during World War 2, a conscientious objector who wouldn’t use a weapon. Despite not wanting to use a weapon, he volunteered for the military. A soldier without a weapon, yeah I know how that sounds, but you’d be surprised at what a weaponless, peaceful soldier can actually do. Remember, he was a medic, his job was to medicate and save people, which is something he did… very well. Desmond Thomas Doss saved the lives of soldiers, showed bravery and selflessness, and inspired people, these things classify him as a hero.
He saved the lives of over 75 soldiers on the battlefields of World War 2. After receiving orders to leave the Maeda Escarpment, Desmond stayed behind because in their retreat, the soldiers had left approximately 75 wounded behind, Desmond stayed behind to help them (desmonddoss.com). Within that one night, May 5, 1945, he gave first aid to over 75 wounded and lowered them off of the escarpment (desmonddoss.com). He saved an unknown number of other soldiers during the fighting here and on other battlefields in the war
