Develop and implement a risk assessment plan in own area of responsibility.
Candidate Explanation There are many regulations that require risks to be assessed.Some are covered by European Community directives.Very important is to follow them when making risk assessments,these include: -Reporting of Injuries Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulation 1995(RIDDOR) -Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulation 1999 -Manual Handling Operation Regulations 1992(amended 2002) -Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002(COSHH) -Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002 The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 state that employer have to assess any risk at workplace and then apply risks control measures,take action to reduce the risk. To assess any risk very important is to include individual’s preferences and wishes to maintain their diversity and dignity but also my own and others safety,also to answer on five key questions: -What is the purpose of the risk assessment? -who has to access the risk? -whose risk has to be assessed? -what has to be assessed? -when have the risk be assessed? When I am making assessment of an individual I have to be sure that I respect individual’s rights under National Standards,Codes of Practice polices,to protect residents equality and diversity and to challenge discrimination of residents and to be sure that all individual’s needs are met to maintain their health and wellbeing. I encourage people to express their needs and preferences in particular area to show how they understand the risk and identify any factors that my put themselves or others at risk to promote their own health and well-being. To prepare accurate risk assessment I should involve to this process individual’s family and friends,company Health and Safety Officer also seek any required advice to make sure that individual’s but also all staff members equality and diversity are met and all possible risks are assessed.     Criminogenic needs can be described as changeable risk factors, that when reduced, result in reduced criminal behaviour. These needs are termed “criminogenic” because they are empirically related to criminal conduct and when reduced, lead to reductions in future reoffending. Therefore, changes in criminogenic needs have a desired effect on changes in criminal behaviour. In the Risk Assessment case study, a number of these criminogenic needs as well as the “central eight” risk factors are evident contributors to the criminal nature and history of the accused. The first and most important criminogenic need in respect to the case is the Family/Marital factor. The accused believed that his wife had been having an affair and he constantly accused her of infidelity and being seductive with other men. These feelings of insecurity led to many years of constant arguments and assault cases with his wife up until he killed her. This is evident in the fact that the first assault case filed against him was when he was aged 37 and the cases lingered up until the accused was 42. This criminogenic need also directly relates with the family and/or marital “central eight” risk factor. The second most important criminogenic need in respect to the case is the Substance Abuse factor. The substance being abused in this case is alcohol. The accused is of the opinion that his antisocial and violent behaviour is motivated by alcohol abuse. Alcohol substance abuse can also be traced in the impaired driving charges accrued by the accused, which served as one of his previous convictions. Alcohol abuse can also be held responsible for his current state of unemployment as it got him fired from previous jobs. Ultimately, it could be the reason why he does not remember the incidents leading to the murder of his wife because he could have been under the influence.…

    My employer has a responsibility to provide a safe working environment which has safe access to and from my workplace including individual child’s homes and in community, and provide a risk assessment for all hazards which is reviewed and updating regular intervals. Risk assessment are done to identify and assess the risks and to try to avoid, assess and reduce the risks to the client, employees and employers whilst in the client own home, out in the community, play schemes and Grace Little centre. It is required by Law (Management of Health and Safety at Work regulations 1999) that employers are to complete a risk assessment to assess and identify any risks in the workplace / work activities and regularly review the risk assessments. I regularly read all my different individual clients care plans and risk assessment to make sure nothing has changed and I would inform my Line manager if any changes immediately. I also sign the care plans and risk assessment to say that I have read and understood them. I know that Carlisle Mencap as my employer has to provide a safe working environment and has put in place a Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Policy, Control of Infectious Disease Policy and Procedure, which I have read and understood. I know it my responsibility to take reasonable care for my own safety as well as my other colleagues, to follow any health and safety guides lines set out by my employers and not intentionally damage any health and safety equipment/materials provided by my employer.
