Candidate Explanation There are many regulations that require risks to be assessed.Some are covered by European Community directives.Very important is to follow them when making risk assessments,these include: -Reporting of Injuries Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulation 1995(RIDDOR) -Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulation 1999 -Manual Handling Operation Regulations 1992(amended 2002) -Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002(COSHH) -Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002 The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 state that employer have to assess any risk at workplace and then apply risks control measures,take action to reduce the risk. To assess any risk very important is to include individual’s preferences and wishes to maintain their diversity and dignity but also my own and others safety,also to answer on five key questions: -What is the purpose of the risk assessment? -who has to access the risk? -whose risk has to be assessed? -what has to be assessed? -when have the risk be assessed? When I am making assessment of an individual I have to be sure that I respect individual’s rights under National Standards,Codes of Practice polices,to protect residents equality and diversity and to challenge discrimination of residents and to be sure that all individual’s needs are met to maintain their health and wellbeing. I encourage people to express their needs and preferences in particular area to show how they understand the risk and identify any factors that my put themselves or others at risk to promote their own health and well-being. To prepare accurate risk assessment I should involve to this process individual’s family and friends,company Health and Safety Officer also seek any required advice to make sure that individual’s but also all staff members equality and diversity are met and all possible risks are assessed.
