Dialogue Essays: How Dexter Changed My Life
Dexter was smaller than everyone throughout his entire life. Dexter being short made life a little harder than it would have been otherwise, but all of the bullying and the overlooking he had to deal with gave him thick skin. He had problems at home like most people but his were a little worse and he was always looking for an escape or a happy place. Then one day on a walk he stumbled onto a basketball court, and that was the day that changed his life forever. He was 10 years old and most of the people on that court were older teens and adults, he was scared and a little anti-social but someone came up to him and asked him what he was doing, he nervously walked away and the older guy said “hey do you want to play?” Dexter said yes. That was his first ever basketball game and that game would change his life forever even though he didn't realize it at the time.He didn’t play well but he had a feeling he had never felt before, the sound of the ball going into the hoop, the shoes shrieking on the floor, and a feeling he got every time he shot the ball he felt like he had finally found a place that he belonged he felt at home on that court. …show more content…
He went home that night and looked all over the internet for ways to get better at basketball and ways to get stronger. He made out a plan for himself to take 500 shots a day, dribble the basketball for 30 minutes, and go to the gym with his dad to get stronger, every day for 6 months he did that going to the gym , taking countless shots at the same hoop, and dribbling that same old basketball. He didn't play another full court game of basketball until after that 6 months.
