There needed to be a stringent set of guidelines for the boy throughout the rest of his life. These laws were soon dubbed the “Code of Harry”, laws that Dexter never deviated from, unless survival and secrecy depended on it. The “Code of Harry” became Dexter’s religion; he based all his actions on it. Dexter lacked normal human emotion due to his mental imparity. Harry explained to him that he must put on a ruse for the rest of his life; pretend he enjoyed, pretend he loved and pretend he cared. It is the Dark Passenger that is heard though, devoid of feeling and emotion. The voice cuts in, a monotonous drone, explaining the Dark Passenger’s thoughts on a situation and the people around. Because Dexter is technically two characters in one, this narration feature is very helpful in differentiating his selves apart. The Dark Passenger is the only 1st person point of view the entire show and serves a great purpose because all in all, Dexter Morgan is two people.
