Diary of a wimpy kid
Diary of a Wimpy kid: The Last Straw by Jeff Kinney is the 3rd book in the series Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I've read all of the books in the series now. To be honest, I understand why kids are drawn to them but as an adult reading them all back to back they got a bit old. As I've shared in my reviews of the other books in the series, this is one of my son's favorite book series. My son AJ who is 10, was so happy that I read the first book and when I finished it, he lined up book 2 and 3 in the series on my nightstand. It was nice to know what he was reading and talk about the books with him. I'll definitely do this again with other books and of course, I will read the 4th book in the Wimpy Kid series which according to the Wimpy Kid website, it will be out on October 12, 2009. My son will be sure to mark the calendar for that one.

This book, continues the story of Gregory, a middle schooler who started writing a diary one summer when his mother bought him one. He's continued writing his stories and complementing them with comics. The comics definitely add a lighter, fun feel to the book and kids seem to love this part. Gregory continues to get himself into embarrassing situations and learns lessons the hard way. This book starts off on New Year's Day where he tries to help other people improve and then it ends at the start of summer vacation. His father seems to be a bit disappointed in his son's and the antics they get into. He decides that they need to learn how to be "men" and threatens to send Gregory to military school. Gregory ends up doing all he can to "bond" with his father and of course, ends up in many precarious situations and not at all what he intended in the first place. The book also details ways that Greg tries to get along with his brothers, his attempts to impress a girl named Holly in his class, and how Greg attempts to get through being placed on a soccer team he doesn't like. It's obvious in the book that Greg is doing all he can as a kid to

“But the principal had ended the suspense early when she sent that letter saying Greg would probably fail Math if he didn’t spend more time studying.” “ And you want to play basketball?” His father’s brows knitted over deep-brown eyes. “ That must be some kind of joke . Now you just go into your room and hit those books.” The textual evidence is related to Greg’s conflict by showing that the letter would show that he is failing in math, and when his father saw the letter he wants Greg to study instead of thinking about basketball. The conflict is important to the events in the story because he never would have run away from his house and without meeting Lemon Brown, Greg would still value basketball over family. When Greg learns about Lemon Brown’s son, his values for basketball…

Gregory Heffley Is the main character and owner of the diary. He is the wimpy kid. Greg is sometimes selfish, ignorant, and vain. Greg is also thinking up scams from time to time. Greg takes advantage of his, rather dim-witted and naive, friend Rowley Jefferson. Greg will also let Rowley take the blame for something he did. Greg is not very athletic, much to his father's disappointment. Greg also tried to explain to his father that you can a play football, baseball, basketball, and other sports on his game system without "getting all sweaty and stuff" after his father told him to play outside. Greg also has a huge dislike for a comic called "L'il Cutie," which is described by Greg as the lamest comic ever. Greg's father seems to agree with him. Greg's older brother, Rodrick, buys him a book, The Best Of L'il Cutie, every Christmas since he knows Greg hates the comic. Greg's life, as he describes it, is the lamest life a 7th grader could live. His birthday is February 23.…

    Greg Heffley Story

To Greg Heffley, middle school is the dumbest idea ever invented. It's a place rigged with hundreds of social landmines, not the least of which are morons, wedgies, swirlies, bullies, lunchtime banishment to the cafeteria floor - and a festering piece of cheese with nuclear cooties. To survive the never-ending ordeal and attain the recognition and status he feels he so richly deserves, Greg devises an endless series of can't-miss schemes, all of which, of course, go awry. And he's getting it all down on paper, via a diary - "it's NOT a diary, it's a journal!" Greg insists, preferring the less-sissyfied designation - filled with his opinions, thoughts, tales of family trials and tribulations, and (would-be) schoolyard triumphs. "One day when…

Charlie, the protagonist, is a high school freshman, and is painfully shy and introverted. He is innocent and naïve, sometimes to the point of ignorance. Charlie has faced many difficulties throughout his short life, most notably the death of his beloved Aunt Helen and the recent suicide of his only friend Michael. He does not, however, wallow in self-pity and seek the reader’s sympathy. This makes Charlie an extremely likable character. His sensitivity and simple-mindedness appeals to the reader and helps to engage them with the story. At the beginning of the novel, Charlie is reluctant and cautious, content with being a ‘wallflower’, as he has been his entire life. A major thinker, Charlie has always lived inside his head, observing and analysing those around him but never participating in life. He is extremely intelligent and this is recognised by his English teacher, Bill. Charlie develops a close relationship with Bill, who becomes a trusted confidante to the troubled youth. Bill notices that Charlie is a loner, and encourages him to ‘participate’ more in life. This encouragement leads the way to Charlie discovering that there is a whole realm of possibilities beyond the world he occupies in his head.…

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series written by Jeff Kinney highlights the life of Greg Heffley: a socially awkward individual (labeling, slanders) aiming for the top of the social hierarchy of middle school. He tends to emulate any trend to make himself noticeable. In the series entitled “The Third Wheel” highlights the life of Greg Heffley in anticipation for the Valentines Day Dance. I chose to talk about this book because it entails the bad and the good of Greg Heffley as his life progresses in this book.…

The Notebook he tells about the love between a man and a woman, from when they met as teenagers until they are in a nursing home, trying to overcome the trials of Alzheimer’s and loss of memory. Throughout the story it is clear that they love each other deeply. I read the book and watched the movie version of this touching story. There was one thing that I found surprising, that I enjoyed the movie more than I did the book, which is rare for me. When I have watched other movie versions of a book, I found that the book had so much more depth and character than the movie version did. In this case I found the opposite occurred. That in the movie format The Notebook had characters that had so much more depth and emotion than the book version. Also, the parts that the director’s and producers added to the movie did not take away from the story; instead it enhanced the whole piece.…

Gregory seems to be sad that the teacher did not ask why he misbehaved and was a troublemaker in class and that she assumed he was stupid , But he also wanted her approval badly as shown when he got a big thrill out of being chosen to clean the blackboard .while I was reading I felt that the teacher was heartless and immoral and she shouldn’t be teaching ,she could have merely thanked Gregory in class and then spoken to him privately later if she thought he could contribute it.…

My book report is going to be about Diary of a Wimpy Kid, double down. When I first saw this book I was expecting an elaborate story line, many plot twists, and great character development. The main characters are Greg, Mr. Heffley, Mrs. Heffley, Rowley, and his baby brother Manny. Greg is the narrator of the book and the book is things that happen to him that he wants to write down. Mr. and Mrs. Heffley are his parents. Rowley is his best friend, Greg also has two brothers named Rodrick and Manny. I didn’t include Rodrick as a main character because he only shows up every one page and so. He also has a pet pig that has learned to walk and wear pants. The settings are Greg’s house, one friend’s house, his school, and I guess his car. In the start of the book, Greg said about how he saw this movie about how some guy was being recorded secretly for a TV show.…
