My vegetable intake was .7 cups and the recommendation is 2.5 cups. My fruit intake was 0 and the recommendation is 2 cups. My grains intake was 2.5 ounces and the recommendation is 6 ounces. On day two I had a major wrench thrown into the day and did not have much of an appetite. I see that I need to work on all levels of what I did not get my equivalents to.…

Medifast claims to be a low calorie, low fat diet that many people have joined. The plan is based around high protein shakes, bars and soups. The most popular choice is the 5 and 1, which consists of 5 Medifast meals and 1 “lean and green” meal. The caloric intake claims to be somewhere between 800 and 1,000 calories per day; however, when I entered a daily diet sample into the Diet Analysis program, I found a significant difference. The sample recommended a Medifast ready to drink Dutch chocolate shake for breakfast. Mid morning, a suggestion of Medifast scrambled eggs with a dash of parsley. Lunch was the first half of the lean and green meal, suggesting six ounces of roasted turkey with one cup of steamed mustard greens topped with one teaspoon of olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. The mid afternoon snack was a Medifast strawberry creme shake blended with ice and water. The remaining portion of the lean and green meal was suggested for dinner and included Medifast’s cream of broccoli soup with one-half cup steamed broccoli added for texture. A night snack of a vanilla shake was also shown. Using the dietary recommendations in the dietary analysis program for me, this sample meal plan only provided me with 54% of the calorie intake, or 773.24 kcalories. With a RDI of a minimum of 1200 kcals, this diet is insufficient in meeting metabolic goals, thus requiring supplements to enhance metabolism. Also, the carbohydrate requirements were 54.98 g, when I have a recommendation of 160-231 g per day. The fat requirement of 32-55 g per day were also not met, only providing 17.85 g. The only energy nutrient requirement that was met, and actually exceeded, was the protein…

How does your diet compare to the recommendations you received from the Food Guide Pyramid? I just recently decided that I was going to start eating healthier. I am not on a diet! That is just too much stress. However, I have made quite a bit of progress with changing how I eat. The recommendation that I got were not that off of what I’m trying to accomplish. I need to eat more fruit and vegetables. I have been doing well with the grain and fiber intake. I need to do better with my sodium intake, which is still a little high, but is much lower than what I used to consume.…
1) I did list down what I had for the last 24 hours and I found I had something from each of the five major food groups which are correct per MyPlate.com. I exceeded the number of servings for vegetables because I take romaine lettuce and add a little bit of seasoning (Mrs. Dash) to it and eat it like I would eat chips. This helps me to get the crunch I like and also keep my caloric intake at a minimum.…
b) As one can see from this table, my calorie consumption was consistently under or at the maximum limit that Supertracker set for me. Compared…
We’ve heard time and time again during our lives how important it is to eat fruits and vegetables or to have a well-balanced diet. We also know how hard it can be to ensure that you are eating enough of the right thing. Are fast food restaurants as bad as people make them seem? How do you know if your diet contains all of the essential vitamins and minerals? The answers to both of these questions lie in the results from the three-day food intake assignment I participated in. Using the information I recorded in IProfile, I was able to record my intake of protein, carbohydrates and lipids, the amount of fiber intake, and notice pattern or trends in my diet that could be modified.…

A ‘fad diet’ is a diet that promises dramatic weight loss, which results in a short period of time. These diets usually remove all food groups and due to this do not actually provide the essential nutrients that we need for our everyday lives. These diets do not result in long-term weight loss and are a very unhealthy way of loosing weight. Fad diets are very intriguing because they all promise a quick fix. Nutritionists are concerned about fad diets because they can cause symptoms like dehydration, weakness, fatigue, nausea, headaches, constipation and inadequate nutrients that our bodies need.…

One of the challenges with most diets that are based on decreasing the total number of calories being consumed is sustaining a high metabolism. Our metabolism is responsible for burning through calories, but when the caloric content of our food is reduced, our bodies shift gears and decrease their calorie consumption. This results in that feeling of sluggishness and tiredness that is common among most dieters, meaning we become less efficient at burning calories. What a metabolic diet does is raise the metabolism to speed up the burning of calories, which equates to a faster weight loss rate. This method of dieting is much more effective than what essentially amounts to starving yourself. But if you are dieting to lose weight, how can you avoid…
