Antiepileptic drugs vs. CBD
Antiepileptic drugs are non-invasive and quite effective and in treating epilepsy in both adults and children. Physicians can control dosage and combine drugs to increase effectiveness according to patient (Kwan 2000). Side effects are can range from drowsiness to loss of coordination (Pellock 1987). In comparison to the usage of CBD, they are both non-invasive types of treatments. Antiepileptic drugs are generally prescribed to patients who are newly diagnosed, whereas CBD is usually only sought after when patients are treatment resistant. Both treatments have rare and non-life threatening adverse effects and minor side effects.

CBD is non-invasive and can be given orally. The therapeutic device has been reported to decrease seizure frequency in less than half of patients, while CBD can reduce seizure frequency and possibly free a small number of patients of seizures (Ben-Menachem 1994). Like patients who have used CBD, the therapeutic device is usually sought after by patients who are treatment resistant. The therapeutic device causes minor side effects such as muscle spasm and possible hoarseness in throat.
Temporal lobe surgery vs. CBD The temporal lobe surgery is very invasive because a part of the brain is removed, whereas CBD can be taken oral and treatments can be stopped. More than 50% of patients have reported to no longer experiencing seizures that render them unconscious (Wiebe et al. 2001). The side effects of the temporal lobe surgery is possible diminished memory and visual impairment. CBD patients have reported somnolence and fatigue.
