Identifying and Diagnosing Antisocial personality disorder/ Psychopathy The clinical term for sociopathy and psychopathy is antisocial personality disorder. There is many diagnostic terms to identify the antisocial personality disorder and there is many different levels of the deficit of the disorder. According to Black (2015) antisocial personality disorder has been reported in about two to four percent of men and around one percent in women (Black, 2015).The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM) classifies antisocial personality disorder under four major criteria. First, according to the DSM-V, the individual must have shown “disregard or violation of the rights of others…the failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors, deceitfulness, impulsivity or failure to plan ahead, irritability or aggressiveness, reckless regard for safety of self or others, constant irresponsibility, and lack of remorse” (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Intelligence level seems to have a impact on how the individual handles the different levels of psychopathy. The higher the intelligence level the better the individual can get what they want. If psychopathy is all about control, like what Dr. Hickey suggests, then the different levels exert control in their own way. Sociopaths are more likely to engaged in violent behaviors to exert control and have a hard time covering it up. Psychopaths and primary psychopaths, because of their higher intelligence level, can control their impulses and exert their control in other ways or be able to hide the evidence better than
