The primary aim of the study, stated in the introduction, is to assess change blindness in real life with direct participants rather than through television, photographs and computer screens. The experiment tests the hypothesis that people are more likely to detect changes in a scene when directly participating in the experiment. Due to the results of the initial experiment, the aim of the study evolved to assess the effect of social groups on change blindness. They hypothesised that change blindness would increase if the participant viewed the experimenter as a part of an ‘out-group’.…
Access to medical care is one of the most important aspects of healthcare delivery. Without proper access, those who need medical care would have to wait an unnecessary amount of…
“Direct Access" typically describes patient's ability to consult with and receive care from physical therapist without the legal necessity of obtaining a referral from another healthcare practitioner (Fosnaught, 2002). Having direct access would definitely have a big impact in my current practice in assisted living facility and community based outpatient. It would open up a lot of opportunities for I can see my patients coming to me directly for their neuromusculoskeletal problems without the trouble of waiting for more than 3 weeks just to get a referral and before their condition worsens. The long wait times to see their primary care physicians, lost or expired prescriptions are some of my patient’s dilemma right now. All of these add to…
Several sects from all over Europe made North America their home throughout the 17th century. Beginning with the southern Chesapeake colonies, the North American regions were assembled by their founding nations. English Puritans and Separatists and Spanish Conquistadores eventually formed settlements in the New World; however, Puritans and Separatists and Spanish Conquistadores differed fundamentally in their original motivation to explore the foreign paradise. After facing prosecution in England, the Puritans and Separatists traveled to the New World’s northeast aiming to establish religiously tolerant settlements, whereas the Spanish explored the “West Indies” with hopes to exploit the Southwest’s piñata of expensive metals and non-Christian…
In the 2002 APTA Presidential Address, Mr. Massey made the point that direct access was not a new issue in physical therapy (Massey, 2002). In fact, by 2002 “the battle” for direct access had already been going on for two decades (Massey, 2002). It was a battle that was fought state by state. Three decades later, the US Virgin Islands, the District of Columbia, and all 50 states allow direct access of physical therapy services as of January 1, 2015 (Direct Access at the State Level, 2015). Direct access removed state laws requiring referral or prescription from a physician for patients to access physical therapy services from licensed physical therapists. For example, if an individual were to sprain their ankle while playing recreational…
Some people that have disabilities may have problems accessing health care. For example, the entrances to some GP surgeries don’t have very good access for individuals that use wheelchairs. If a wheelchair user has to open two to three doors before entering the waiting area this will act as a barrier. The wheelchair user does not want to depend on others to do things for them; this makes them feel incapable of doing things for themselves.…
This was a really eye opening experience. The inventory got me thinking about many different aspects and how I learn and approach different problems and situations. The implication is that the different selfs (physical, emotional, social, critical, creative, and passionate) affect how you learn. In some situations you might be more confident in yourself than others. However, after you complete the self profile it is not really well defined about what the term survival, maintenance, and enhancement means. I can deduce that the survival means that I am just getting by, the maintence means I am trying but have to work at it, and enhancement means that I have mostly mastered that portion of myself. This would open up a discussion with the support team as to what your strengths and weaknesses are. I know for myself by thinking about the questions, it made more aware and as I go into a situation, I might think differently about how I approach the…

Different clients are presented with different barriers that cause them to develop these limitations. Being that majority of our clients are students and student athletes they usually spend most of their time siting on hard stools with no back support as well as getting injured on the field which leads to the need to help improve their functions in siting, walking, and climbing stairs. The clinic treats clients till the age of 85. Older people tend to trip and fall while going about their day to day life. This tends to create the need to go to physical therapy to help them reduce pain, regain strength, and increase range of motion. At the same time when in comes to accessing physical therapy services many things have to fall into place in order for it to happen. Some clients are limited by their work schedule, while other by their need to care for dependents, and other by the limitations imposed by insurance such as limited visits, high co-pays, deductibles. While other are limited by their view of their condition. When they feel pain in their back they may ignore it and think it would go away on its own. After walking around with that intense back pain for 2 weeks they may realize that that little back pain wasn't nothing and it is something they should look into. But, by the time they start looking for a physical therapist and till they get verified it may take time and by then their pain may have spread and started problems in other parts of the body (J.M.,…
The current study supports the hypothesis that change blindness varies depending on the type of change made within an everyday scene. Even though the distraction of the flicker method was used, participants correct scores were highest in the congruent change condition, an object that is replaced with another that is in keeping with the scene was easier to spot. This may be due to the images and objects being of familiarity to the participant. The scenes used were in the kitchen, bedroom, office, and the objects in this condition were exchanged with objects of the same context. Therefore, this may have made it easier to spot the change. The reason for this is because the scenes and objects are of familiarity, we encounter them daily.…
In this economy there is a constant struggle to get people the healthcare that is needed at an affordable price. Because of this, people with life threatening illnesses and even the least life threatening can’t get the care that is needed or deserved. Access to healthcare is a major issue in the United States. The issue of access to health care does not just relate to insurance coverage and the cost of care, but also to the availability of health care providers and gaining access to their health record. Patient access problems can lead to irritated patients and frustrated staff; long-term problems can have a much greater impact—such as lost patients and, consequently, lost revenue. Ways to address the issues in any practice…
Everyone can view perspectives differently and sometimes it is hard to understand another person’s perspective. Many people do the things they do because they feel that their perspective is the right one. Personally I believe that sometimes people do not want to look at the others personal perspective because they know that they are wrong with their own. In other words, some people know what they are doing is wrong and do not want to do anything to fix it.…
