It was welcome by the disabled group. In 1960s and 1970s, a new group of disabled people challenged the way in which they were treated and regarded in the society. Definitions of impairment and disability were developed which now formed the basis of the Social model. Disability is no longer seen as an individual problem but a social issue caused by policies, practices, attitude and environment. A wheelchair user may have a physical impairment, because of the absence of ramp, this prevent them from accessing the building. This mean that the disabling factor is the inaccessible environment. The social model focuses on ridding society of barriers, rather than relying no “curing” people who have impairment. The society think if a person is impaired, he or she has no use in the society, but this is very wrong because people with any form of impairment are still very useful to the country.
