Disabled Veterans Essay

Arguably, military veterans are among the strongest and most brave people in society. They selflessly put their lives on the line so that others may be free. For many veterans, the military is simply their way of life, it’s the only life they really know and they can’t imagine not being able to live it. When a veteran is forced to leave the military due to injury sustained while performing their duties, it can be devastating. Not only are they dealing with a potentially debilitating injury, but they must also try to figure how they will go on with their life. What will they do? How will they go about finding employment? Are there any resources available to them? These are just some of the questions that plague the men and women who have been disabled while serving this country. Finding the answers to their questions is not nearly as easy as it should be. The military and the Veterans Administration need to ensure that all disabled veterans receive information and training on all of the current programs and assistances
Paralyzed Veterans of America is one such organization. Since 1946 they have been providing American veterans with a variety of needed services, such as help navigating compensation paperwork for disabled veterans. In 2007 they founded the program, Paving Access for American Veterans (PAVE), which is a vocational rehabilitation and employment program. They have a unique veteran-based model for rehabilitation that pairs the veteran with counselors as their partners so that they have the tools to not only find employment, but to maintain it as well.
