Disaster Management and importance of Local Information Sharing In Uttarakhand State recently we faced one type of Natural Disaster. Thousands of lives are lost. It may seems to be a big event from the perspective of human lives, but if we study the life of earth, it is a routine and small act of nature. A number of geologist will agree with me that it is not surprising act. And it is not when we have disturbed the natural balances by humans routine activities. We have to learn to survive such disasters. It starts from learning the causes of the disaster and stop or avoid to do those activities. For example use of woods and not replenishing of lost woods.
Uprooting of Plants is also linked with mining activities and building of Dams. We know we cannot stop building dams or mining.
So what should we do?
Organizations which are building such huge projects must select some other locations (if not the same) to compensate devastations done at one location. In this consumerist world we can evaluate value of Plant in the monetary terms also and I am sure that a single plant producing Oxygen, giving stability to soils, provide humus, shelter etc can make it worth crores while it is live. And a whole wood has much more valuation.
So we must think for long terms benefit like true consumers. We must think about our grandchildrens, What will we left for them. We should become less consuming sensible humanbeing, if , we want to survive longer.
In local level we have lot of information about small disasters taking place. We have to compile the information of those activism of water, land and ice with time, duration and frequency. We have to share this amongst local residents.
We should map the tracking routes which can be used during disasters.
We should map such places where we can take shelter in case our village has come in path of river or its catchment area. We must convince villagers to shift villages before the act of
