The points mentioned during the debate of motion for agreeing with the statement being made were, if they made the decision to relax the discipline standards there would be an increase in applicants wanting to join the services. Members of the public are more likely to join knowing that they aren’t going for a horrible experience. They would also be highly motivated because they are picking the career they want.
Relaxing discipline means that the training involved to get the job won’t be as strict but this would therefore increase the need for self-discipline within the members of the force. Having self-discipline means that there would not be a need to have such a strict atmosphere and the workers would be motivated because they want to be there. They are willing to work outside for their job role and succeed further.
The workers within the Public services live in constant fear of punishment. They try and live up to the high standards of discipline because they know that if they don’t they will have to suffer consequences. Not only does this affect the way they act it effects the way they think. The discipline is always on their mind. They take it home with them as well; their personal life is greatly affected. Being rigorously exposed to a high standard of discipline can cause mental suffering such as stress, the feeling of lack of motivation, neglect, negative thinking etc. the way they have been treated for example in the army, they can develop psychological problems and loss control, leading to the workers giving up.
Although on the other hand discipline should be reinforced a lot more than it is currently. Increasing
