Twenty One Pilots is an alternative/indie band made up of two members, Joseph and Josh Dunn. They are known to occasionally rap and include specific tempos and beats that correspond with each song’s thought provoking lyrics. In the song “Oh. Ms. Believer” by Twenty One Pilots they use the analogy of snow to describe a young girl going through depression. The band accurately describes the feeling of being trapped inside one's mind as they go through the hardships of this mental illness. Although at first this song may be interpreted as another cliché alternative hit, the meanings hidden beneath the lyrics are sure to tug at the listener's heart strings as he/she looks through the eyes of someone who struggles with a loved one who is depressed.…

Upon their arrival on the pop-punk scene in the early 2000’s, Something Corporate quickly rose to cult fame and notoriety due to their catchy, witty take on post-emo anthems. Leaving Through the Window is a perfect example of this. Although some songs play on some of the more stereotypical pop-punk tropes (the manic-pixie-dream-girl of “Punk Rock Princess”, for instance), it also holds profound wisdom and reflection, highlighted in the nostalgic “Cavanaugh Park”. Although many of the songs tend to bleed together and begin to sound eerily similar to one another, they bear enough difference to one another to remain exciting and captivating throughout its 58 minute playtime. Singer Andrew McMahon’s vocals aren’t the most refined, but pack the…

"That is so gay.” “You are such a faggot.” These are two phrases we hear fairly often in our everyday lives and do not really question what they are actually saying. Unless you have been living under a rock for the last few decades, you know the words gay and faggot are derogatory terms for people who are homosexual. Yet theses words are accepted as everyday vocabulary in America. Our society has become so immune to these words that we have forgotten what they mean and how they can affect people. In Macklemore’s song "Same Love” and his music video he addresses society's false preconceived notions on homosexuality, the use of hateful slurs in the music industry, and how we as a society need to stop ignoring the sexual equality movement and…

Cherub definitely has the potential to make a difference in the history of rock n roll. Their unique style and sound opens the door for many to follow. The live shows they put on resemble the excitement of a real rock show. They also strive to create shows that blow the roof off the building and are bouncing with energy. With all the crazy sounds, and vibes blended in and out during their songs, many can't help but think the band might have some sort of effect on future rock music. Technology is developing at a rapid rate and music will surely be effected by it. Cherub uses mix boxes and a lot of key boards in their music, which creates an electronic, futuristic, rock, pop feel, unfamiliar to many. The music is very upbeat and holds a lot of build up, that totally captures the crowds interest early on. When many people think of rock, they think of sex, drugs and good music/vibes all around. Cherub creates music that represents exactly that .…
