Confidentiality plays a huge part when working in the Health and Social Care profession as the main priority is the safety of the individuals who come and discuss what is worrying them. The information that is given to a GP for example needs to be kept secret so it doesn’t cause harm to the patient. Also when doing research you need to make sure that everyone involved understands that they don’t have to continue with the research if they feel uncomfortable. This links in with my research as my responsibility towards the parents and their children is to keep information secure from anyone and prevent them from any harm. By …show more content…
ensuring them this will may make them feel more comfortable about letting me observe their children.
In relation to research in a nursery individuals will need to offer protection to the children as they can be vulnerable. They will need to ensure that all information is kept confidential and no one is going to be put at risk throughout the study. Also the staff’s details need to be kept private also because they can also be included in the research as well. This is related to my specific research task for this unit as I need to ensure the parents of the children and also the staff that any information will not be spoken about outside of the setting.
Another ethical issue is being able to manage the differential ‘power relationships in settings. Professionals need to make sure that the answers that they are given are what the staff actually think and that they are not being pressurised by the manager to say positive things. This relates to my research project as I need to make sure the answers the staff gives me about the healthy routines in the nursery are their own opinion and they are not being told to say positive things as this could make my research unreliable.
An ethical issue that is important is the procedures that are put in place. Procedures make sure that guidelines are followed and that each professional care setting is providing a good example of care for individuals. Research links into procedures well as they need to make sure that the research carried out doesn’t put the individuals at any harm and that any information collected is kept confidential. This links into my research project as I need to make sure that the procedures that are put in place ensure a balance in the difference between an individual’s right and their privacy. My responsibility is to make sure that they know all information that is shared is kept confidential and not putting anyone at risk. I need to also make sure that the parents know the procedures I need to follow.
Ethical approval is important because individuals cannot carry out a research project in a child care setting etc. without the consent of the parents and also the staff as there priority is the children. I need to make sure when I carry out my research project that I have the parent’s consent for the children to participate in the activity.
When carrying out research you need to think of everyone’s human rights and what they mean to people. You need to take into consideration their right to not be discriminated against in any way and to respect their privacy to the highest level. These rights should be respected by the researchers. When I carry out my research project I need to make sure that I treat the children and staff with respect. I need to also consider the children’s beliefs and race. I can’t discriminate against them.
Role of media plays a part in research. Promoting different stories can be printed onto a newspaper, broadcasted over a news story or shown on the internet in an article. There will be different circumstances where the information that is collected needs to be confidential so in that case they may use a different name for the people involved in a story. On the other hand what they could do is write about the information in a way so the people that are involved are not named at all. In my research project I need to make sure that names are not included in my report and I refer to them for example as ‘they’. This is to protect the children from any harm etc.
Use and misuse of data is important as its duty is to protect participants from harm and also to ensure that the project that they are involved in is carried out with integrity.
In research this can involve making sure the accuracy of data is high and carefully considering the methods used to carry out the research project.
It is important that the research is designed with care and to select the appropriate methods for the purpose of the research you decide to carry out. It is important that you don’t cause any offence to the people you are researching.
The accuracy of the research is really important as if the information that is given is not completely correct then this may send out the wrong message to the targeted audience. For example if research showed that children should only have 30 minutes of exercise a week then this may mean that this is what nurseries promote. This could have a negative impact on the children’s health.
Inductive reasoning is when the findings of a research project have some unfamiliar information brought together and they then try and find a solution. For example if my findings from my project came out as something unfamiliar then I will need a solution to find more research that is …show more content…
valid
Deductive reasoning is based on premises and if these are found to be true then the reasoning would then be valid. For example with my research project if I wanted to find out if the children benefit from only ten minutes of exercise and they show understanding of what to do etc. then this could be known as reductive reasoning because it would have shown validity.
In many health and social care situations there are many vulnerable children and adults that professionals meet. In a care home for example health care professionals need to make sure that the residents are treated with respect and that their individual needs are being met. They need to also make sure they are patient with them. With my research project the children are considered vulnerable and I need to make sure that the questions I ask are appropriate etc.
To carry out a research project can cost money.
Research can be commissioned from other organisations if another organisation doesn’t have a sufficient use for the skills required.
When carrying out a research project you need to make sure that the participants know that any information given out is kept in the setting. The authencity of my research is keeping any information given to me is kept confidential. I need to make sure that the individuals who are participating understand this also. This keeps the participants out of harm’s way.
You need to make sure that the research you have gathered is truthful. The validity of my research is making sure that I record what I witness from the observation. When I am observing one of the children I need to make sure that I record everything they are doing and how they join with the activities that they are given.
Researchers need to make sure that people are giving honest opinions on the different topics and not what there manager for example if telling them to say. The reliability of my research is making sure that the research is being given truthful answers by the children or even the members of staff. I need to make sure that the answers that the staff may be pressurised to say positive things when they may not fully believe
it.
Impact of key reports is a part of research. Reports that are based on high standards of research tend to be influential which can often influential increase the rise of significant changes to the many policies that can benefit the individuals. These influential reports could include The Beveridge Report 1942 and the Acheson Report 1998. For my research project I may need to think about the different reports that can influence the outcome.
Access to information is a vital part of Health and Social Care. Researchers think that the information of a participant is vital for their project and may want to see their personal information but because of confidentiality they are actually not allowed to do this. This may make the finding valid research more difficult. I need to make sure that I understand that I am not allowed any access to the children’s information.
Data protection is put in place to make sure like confidentiality that everyone’s information is kept private. Data should be kept secret from people who are not health care professionals. Like the access to information for my research task I need to make sure that I don’t get told any information and don’t see any information that I shouldn’t.
Health professionals must comply with codes of practice. Researchers would also be included in this because they will need to keep each private information that is gathered private. I will need to do this when carrying out my research project as I need to make sure no participants are put in danger.
Policies and procedures are important as everyone needs to follow these as it will kept participants safe and know what to do if something goes wrong. For example nursery assistants need to follow confidentiality and so will I when carrying out my research.
