The Constitution of the United States defines a government with three branches: executive, legislative and judicial. Each branch has certain powers, but those powers are also bound by specific limits, exercised primarily in a system of checks and balances by the other branches. This concept is known as "separation of powers," according to an overview on the website of the National Conference of State Legislatures, a term coined by Charles-Louis de Secondat, an 18th-century French social and political philosopher. The legislative branch makes laws, but they must be signed by the executive to take effect, or they may be vetoed. The judicial branch rules on the laws' constitutionality. Legislators can respond by overriding a veto, changing a law or amending the Constitution.…

The US federal legislature is bicameral, therefore it consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives, and in theory they should both be of equal power. However, in reality it is the Senate which is considered to hold the most power, although there are arguments to in favour of them having equal rights. In order to reach a balanced judgement I will consider both sides of the argument, beginning with the claim that the Senate is more powerful than the House of Representatives.…

I think The Executive branch is the most power in the constitution because the president is in charge of this branch. This separation of powers ensures that no branch becomes powerful enough to overtake the other two. The legislative branch, otherwise known as Congress, makes the laws, the executive branch, AKA the president and vice-president, enforces the laws, and the judicial branch, the courts (including but not limited to the Supreme Court, interprets the law. Each branch functions independently from the others, each having its own powers and area of influence. No branch can accomplish anything of major importance without the cooperation of at least one of the…

This helps to prevent one branch from becoming more powerful than another. Each branch has their own responsibilities and role in government. The three branches are the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. The legislative branch is in charge of making laws for our country. The executive branch of government makes sure that the laws of the United States are obeyed. This is where the president comes in also. Lastly, the judicial branch is made up of the court system. Courts decide arguments about laws, how they are applied, and whether they break the rules of the Constitution or not. The Legislative branch is made up by Congress which includes the House of Representatives and the Senate. The executive branch includes the president and vice president. Lastly, the Judicial Court includes the Supreme Court. Each of these branches are important to the constitution and play a major…

The most powerful branch would be the executive branch. The reason why its more powerful than the others because the president has control over the foreign policies. This allows the president to make treaties so they can be approved by the senate. Another reason why the executive branch is the most powerful is that they can decide how they can enforce laws. The President had the right to veto a bill before its made all law which gave him the power to whether enforce a law or not.…

Within those powers were the legislative, judicial, and the executive branch. Under the executive branch, a man named James Madison believed himself to be of the Federalist Party. The Federalist people believed that the Constitution would give the national government enough power to solve the country's problems and believed that the system of checks and balanced would limit the President's power. According to Document 4, the system of checks and balances feared James Madison because he was afraid that one group would have too much power. However, by definition the system of checks and balances gives one branch the authority to stop or check the other braches. This will prevent just one branch from receiving all of the…

Based on the facts that it can regulate commerce, overturn vetoes, approve treaties, declare war, manage funds, impeach officials and of course, make laws, it is clear that when put up against the other Branches, the Legislative holds the most power above them all. I agree with the above statement. The US Supreme Court started slowly as a branch of our government, but by 1857 it emerged as the most powerful branch. The Presidency and the Executive branch certainly can create things, implement new ideas and have a large impact on all the citizens' lives. The Congress as the legislative branch can establish or change laws, and declare war. These are both powerful branches. However, the Supreme Court places the great checks and balances on both the Executive and Legislative branches. The Supreme Court has the final say as to the appropriateness of the law, and the actions of the President. They imposed during this time period limits of power on the other branches.…

For example, both the congress and the president have the power to veto each other’s laws, but only in certain situations, and the Supreme Court interprets the laws that are not vetoed and are actually passed. The president also needs congressional approval to declare a full scale war on another country. The president can do a few military action without congressional approval, and can even assume full control of the nation in a massive crisis situation, such as an invasion or nuclear attack. On the congressional side, their direct control maneuver is the ability to impeach (fire) the president, they may be able to even charge the president for treason after the impeachment based on his/her crime. The Judicial Branch doesn’t really have a “power card” such as executive order or impeachment, the closest thing they have is the ability to declare a bill unconstitutional.…

We believe that the legislature have the most power in our society. Legislature is a branch of the government who are also often known as the legislative branch and the congress. The legislatures are most commonly known to be able to create laws. Laws are defined as a system of rules that regulate actions. The legislature has control over what the citizens can or cannot do. Some might say that the president also has control over the laws created because of the fact that in order for a law to pass, the president must write his signature of approval. This is true, however in reality; the president cannot stop a law from being created by the legislature. Why, because although the president can veto the legislature’s decision, the legislature can also return the favour and veto his decision. For example, if the legislature decided that marijuana should be legalized and the president refuses to sign his or her approval, the legislature can veto that decision and the law will pass. Countries are controlled by laws, not the president. The legislative is also the branch in the government that declares war. They have the sole power to decide whether war will happen or not. Not only does that, but the congress also regulate our military system. They have power over weapons that can destroy the world. Another reason why the legislature has the most power in our society is because they regulate and control money. They control the international commerce. They control the taxes. They can make the taxes skyrocket if they pass the bill. They can borrow money at their will. They have economic power. The legislation is made up from two very important parts in our government: the House of Commons and the Senate. The Senate examines the bills, and decide whether or not they will become laws. They can also make their own bills. No bill can become a law without the Senate approving it. Together with the House of Commons and also the queen, they become the Parliament of Canada. The…
